Widow: Mrs. J.M. Mossman of Wainu Pa, North Auckland.
Parents: Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Mossman of Remuera.

Rex Mossman was born at Auckland on the 31st January 1919. He was employed as a salesman by Messrs. S.J. Best and Company Limited of Auckland before enlisting in the Military Forces on the outbreak of war. He served in the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force overseas with the 34th Battalion, before transferring to the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Tauranga on the 10th September 1943.

Sergeant Mossman served at Tauranga on aerodrome duties, until posted to the Initial Training Wing, at the Delta, Blenheim, on the 29th December. He was posted to Ohakea on the 8th July 1944 for an air gunner course. After completing the course he embarked for overseas in the Pacific Area on the 3rd September and was posted to No. 4 Squadron at Bougainville.

Sergeant Mossman was a member of the crew of a Ventura aircraft engaged on the 6th January 1945, on a transit flight from Bougainville to Emirau Island. The aircraft failed to arrive at its destination and all the crew including Sergeant Mossman were classified as missing. Later, wreckage of the aircraft was located 25 miles from Piva, but there was no sign of the members of the crew. In due course the death of Sergeant Mossman was presumed to have occurred at sea without trace on the 6th January 1945.
