and Almaza, Egypt, was reached on the 7th January 1942 after a journey of sixteen hours forty minutes. Having arrived in Egypt Flight Sergeant Mulholland reported to No. 252 Squadron, at Edko, on the 19th January, (redacted 1942) and commenced operational flying. With this squadron as pilot of a Beaufigther fighter bomber he took part in a naval escort flight and convoy escort flight.

On the 15th February 1942, Flight Sergeant Mulholland was pilot of a Beaufighter fighter bomber which took off from Malta in order to return to its base in Egypt. The aircraft failed to return to its base and Flight Sergeant Mulholland was classified as missing. Exhaustive search failed to locate either the aircraft or any of its occupants and in due course Flight Sergeant Mullholland's death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 15th February 1942 as the result of air operations, and it has since been assumed that he lost his life at sea without trace.
