Devonshire, where he was similarily employed. His next posting was on 1st December to No. 619 Squadron, also at Roborough. On the 15th February 1944, he was posted to No. 54 Operational Training Unit, Charterhall, Berwickshire, to train on Beaufighter two seater fighter aircraft.

On the 20th March 1944, Pilot Officer Mulholland was Pilot of a Beaufighter fighter aircraft engaged on a night flying practice flight over the sea. The aircraft failed to return to its base and and exhaustive search failed to locate either the aircraft or its occupants who were, in consequence, classified as missing believed drowned. After due elapse of time Pilot Officer Mulhollands' death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 20th March 1944 whilst on active service.
