40421 : Pilot Officer Bernard Morris MURDOCH.
PARENTS: Mr. & Mrs. A. O. Murdoch of Upper Hutt, Wellington.

Bernard Murdoch was born on the 17th december, 1913, in
Wellington. He received his secondary education at Timaru
Boys' High School, where he gained his Senior Free Place, and
Public Service Entrance. Keen on aport, he took an active part
in football, cricket, swimming, tennis and boxing. His occupation,
at the time of his application for enlistment, was thatof a
clerk and he was employed at Messrs. Auld & Gleeson Ltd. of
Wellington.

Prior to his entrance into RNZAF P/O Murdoch served for
a year in the Territorials as a member of the 15th Coast Battery.
He applied for training as a pilot on the 27th November, 1939, but
the date of enlistment was deffered and he entered camp at Levin
on the 26th January, 1940. Three months later, at the conclusion
of his recruit training, he was posted to No. 2 Flying Training
School, Woodbourne, where he became a Physical Training Intructor
and was promoted to A/Cpl. In July
