With this Squadron he carried out raids over the German towns of Cologne and Mannheim and over the French port of Le Havre. On the 23rd August, 1941, after returning from a cross country flight, P/O Murdoch suffered serious injuries and his crew minor injuries when the starboard of his Wellington engine failed on landing and crashed on the perimeter of the aerodrome. Two months later, at the beginning of November, he commenced flying once more and was attached for a short course at No. 4 Beam Approach Training Flight, Wyton, Huntingdonshire, before returning to No. 104 Squadron. During the latter part of November he carried out his first raid since his accident, over the German town of Emden.

On the 7th December 1941, P/O Murdoch was reported missing on air operations and later was officially presumed to have lost his life. P/O G.E. Murdoch, brother of P/O B.N. Murdoch was a member of the R.N.Z.A.F and lost his life on air operations on June 9th, 1942.
