flights against the targets of Lubeck, Hanau, Dortmund (2), Homburg, Rostock (2), Cologne (4), Essen (5), and Emden, in Germany.

On the night of 8/9th June, 1942, P/O Murdoch was pilot of a Wellington bomber aircraft which took off on air operations for a target in the Ruhr, Germany, and failed to return to its base, all the members of the crew, including P/O Murdoch were reported missing. This was his 18th operational flight. Later, a report was received from a German source through the International Red Cross Committee that four airmen were killed on June 9th, three being identified as members of P/O Murdoch's crew, but no actual news was received concerning P/O Murdoch. In due course his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 9th June, 1942. A post-war investigation revealed that he was buried in the British Military Cemetery, Bergen-Op-Zoom, Holland.

P/O Murdoch's brother, P/O B.N. Murdoch, was also a member of the R.N.Z.A.F and lost his life on air operations on the 7th December, 1941.
