and Orissa. From this base, during the ensuing 10 months he took part in 20 operational flights, comprising convoy escorts, anti-submarine patrols, and reconnaissances.

On the 7th May 1944, F/O McCormack was a wireless operator air gunner on a Liberator bomber which took off from Cuttack on an operational flight and failed to return to its base. All the members of the crew were classified as missing. Later information was received from India stated that the aircraft was seen to crash into the sea. In consequence he was reclassified to missing, believed killed. However, on the 19th May F/O McCormack's body was recovered, and he was buried with full Service Honours in the Cuttack General Cemetery.
