As soon as I
arrived from the University
I called so in hopes to see
you: I beg of you to
believe that in the
unfortunate and saddening
recurrences at Roble, I have
not been to blame. I feel
forsaken by God & man
and were it not for the
kindness of some old friends
particularly Mr & Mrs [J?] Smith
who offer me their table
would be disheartened
