the jumble in these places was terrific. Baskets and rugs, scarves and ornaments, suspended from the ceiling and all around the entrance; a glass counter stuffed with watches and cameras, the back of the shop bulging with blouses and underwear; confusing but quite exhilarating. After much discussion and haggling and wandering from shop to shop to try for a better bargain we stopped at eight o'clock, (quite exhausted in my case) and returned to Orcades for dinner.
