Cloverley

May 3rd 1910

We were called to order near the
appointed hour. The 1st reader Anna F. Brooke
was not notified in time to prepare a paper.
2nd Reader, Eliza Moore absent. A.G. Thomas
was appointed in her place and gave us
a very interesting account of his trip to Bermuda
and what he saw there. Volunteer
Dr. Kirk told us of Halley's comet, what to look
for and where to look. E.S. Iddings read of
tomato leaves used as an insecticide.
Robert Miller tried putting turpentine on seed
corn before planting, to discourage its enemies.

Soon after we began the business of this meeting,
a thunder storm came on. It became so dark
lamps were lighted, but proceedings stopped until
the worst was over.

Forethought: Plant a succession of beans, corn
beets radishes and cucumbers; plant lettuce every
month. It is of little use to plant peas after
the 1st of May. The beets left from summer
use make good winter food for poultry or
other stock; Sow cabbage seed for late
planting; set out tomato plants; plant plenty
melons; set out sweet potato plants early, before
a drought begins sew tomato seed for
late plants. In the flower garden set out plants
and bulbs, and tubes. Use Helebore for slugs
on rosebushes. No report from Janet Miller nor
Meteorologist.
Poultry report 4906 chickens, 72 ducks 26 turkies
27 goslings 1021 more chicks than in May 1909
