than by the usual methods. It is used to
some extent in Denmark and in England.
2nd article "the difference in the shape of eggs"
3rd Dr. Dahl, a Swedish naturalist first
raised Dahlias with the intention of using
the tubers in place of potatoes, this was soon
abandoned.

2nd Reader, Isabelle Miller An interesting
article on planting trees. Catherine Janney, to
improve her lawn, has thinned out the
trees she had planted 43 years ago. It was
a trial to her feelings to have any cut down
but it is a decided improvement and will be
an advantage to those remaining: When trees
are small, it is often the case that we plant
them too close together for their own good.
Forethought. Recommend doing the right
thing at the right time, neglect nothing that
should be done now in the most important
month of the year, in gardening, the
beginning of the season. All seeds can be
planted, fertilize the ground well, sow onion
seeds for sets and for large onions; prepare
bed for celery, set out cabbage and sow seeds
for late plants; work over strawberry beds
and set out a new bed if desired at once
letting it get an early growth. Trim raspberries
and blackberries, if not already done.
In the flower garden, shade the beds,
transplant perennials. No advantage in
sowing annuals this month in the open ground.

The freezing and thawing of March
have injured rose bushes very much
they will have to be cut back, some of
them to the ground. Cut back geraniums
