Falling Green

June 6th 1911

At the usual hour, which is a little later
than the appointed hour, our members and
many guests assembled at this fine old
place. The Secretary was asked to note the
sudden change in temperature. A fall of
30° in less than 24 hours. The May just past
is shown by statistics to have been the driest
we have had for 56 years and an exceptionally
warm month.

1st Reader, Ellen Farquhar read "a plea
for the Pepper." It is easy to raise and as a
vegetable, useful and wholesome. The seeds contain
most of the sharpness and can be
saved for pickles or other condiments.
Small pieces, green or ripe baked with beans,
tried once, will be tried again. Peppers shredded
and fried after meat, make a healthful and
appetizing accompaniment to it. The beauty
and usefulness of this vegetable of many
sided character commends it to a place
in every garden. 2nd Article, a statement
by Professor Dalrymple of the Louisiana
Station that the History of the World's
progress, is, in one respect, the story
of a series of calamities. Some change
in conditions which upsets the old, time
worn habit of doing things bring about
some of the world's great changes.
