sand. The temperature at noon to-day
varied at different places from 91° to 95°
Yesterday, it reached 99° at Riverside
The specimens were fine but from only
five places, as so many members were
prevented from coming by the storm.
Questions
{1}Will it do to use the seed potatoes
next year from those having blight this
year? It would be better not to use
them.
{2}Will a badly wounded young cherry
tree recover, the bark having been torn
off? It was recommended to apply grafting
wax to the wound, a perpendicular
patch only on the wound, not going
around the tree.
{3}What time plant out a wisteria raised
from the seed? Any time now or
a little later.
{4}How treat gooseberries? The bushes are
young and thrifty but the berries small;
Fertilize and and do not let them grow
too think.
We found the garden excellent despite
the want of rain. Long rows of all the
best vegetables made a fine show. The
corn was extra fine. The flower beds
were bright but drooping from dry
hot weather. Some vegetables, notably
beets, are poor from the same reason
i.e. dry, hot weather, causing slow growth.
