Our President, at this last meeting
of the year expressed his belief that we
are justified in being a society by the social
feature which has made us all better
acquainted and increased our love for each
other and our guests, without considering the
great improvement in our gardens and
lawns. The minutes were read. Mrs. Janney
who had been appointed to answer the question
"What does it cost to raise a chicken"
relpied by a paper which is as follows.

"I have found to hatch a chicken April 1st
and feed to weigh 2 lbs. June 1st costs .30cts.
.10cts. for hatching and .10cts. a month for food
and hear. This covers cost of eggs that do
not hatch and chicks that die. I find
it costs about .10cts. a month to feed a fowl
to maturity and that they gain a pound
per month the first six months. The cockerels
usually weigh 8 lbs. at eight months. Pullets
begin laying at sixz months and lay regularly
at eight months, that is an egg
every third day."

Ellen Farquhar whose question about
her canteleups had no satisfactory answer
from our members, was advised to write to the
Dep. of Agriculture. This she did not do
as her experience with the department
had been unsatisfactory. She saw the worm
