This meeting was well attended
A few members were absent, but our
hostess had invited guests who filled
the empty places very pleasantly.

The minutes were read and corrected
Readers. 1st Emily Massey read "Grow
-ing best Strawberries" which gave an ex
-cellent plan for starting a new bed
Get the plants as short a distance from
home as convenient; plant in the evening
just before a rain. Trim all the large
old leaves off, all of last year's growth
and cut off some of the roots; as they
are trimmed drop them into water
Set them in the ground no deeper
than the were and firm them in the soil.
do not let them bear the first year and
clip off the runners just beyond the
first plant formed. Set the plants 18
to 24 inches apart and the rows two
feet apart so they can be cultivated
with the hand wheel hoe or rake to keep
the earth loose and destroy young
weeds. Mulch the bed as soon as the
ground freezes.
