It was proposed to defer or omit
this meeting on account of the illness
of our vice president, but he requested we
should have the meeting and sent
his love to us all.

The minutes were read and accepted

1st reader Mary Kirk read that window
boxes are, sometimes, more satisfactory,
than garden beds especially the self wa-
-tering kind The ordinary handing pots
or baskets are very disappointing. "Our
failures are generally due to our ne-
-glect to provide a sufficient amount
of water and sometimes most of
that which we apply runs off before
it has time to soak into the soil. To
grow any plant well its roots must
have all the water they need and the
soil must be kept moist. With the self
watering boxes this is arranged and
the result is most satisfactory.

2nd reader Helen Thomas, by Anna Nesbitt

The blight of chestnut trees. Specimens
were sent to the Dept of Agriculture. It
is recommended to spray once in three
weeks. Cut out defective spots and
fill with tar or pitch. It is a fungus
extract from The Country Gentleman"
