The minutes of the last meeting were
approved, with a slight alteration and
accepted.

1st Reader, Robert Miller, read of the oldest
oldest tree in the world. It is 5000 or 6000 years
old. It was discovered by Humboldt 100 years
ago near Oxaco, Mexico. Its diameter is 42
feet. Albin Thomas told of a pine tree sent
from Oregon to San Francisco for a flag
pole. It was 220 feet tall, set 20 feet
in the ground and held in place with
10 tons of concrete. The flag to be 40 x 60 feet.
2nd Reader Mary Magruder absent. The
Secretary read a letter from the Maryland
Agricultural College giving an invitation
to our Society to Exhibit at the
5th Regiment Armory, Nov. 16th to 21st
under the auspices of the Maryland
State Horticultural Society. There was
no response. Our gardens and fields
are so dry. Mary Stabler introduced
a variety of spinach from New Zealand
which she considers superior to the
ordinary kind.

Forethought

The planting for this month
lettuce, beets, beans, etc for succession.

The war on weed must still go on.
Continue cultivation to promote moisture.
