This morning convened punctually
at 4:15. The minutes were read
and approved 1st Reader, Isabel Stiller
read of of the road to the top of Mt.
Whitney which is planned, the highest
point in the U.S. Part of this highway
has already been constructed by
the Kern Co. and the County with cont[iace?]
the road to the Government line
The plan is heartily approved by Gov.
Johnson and practically all the
civic organization from Los Angels
to San Francisco. N. D. Darlington of
the state highway commission Said
it would be the most remarkeable road
the U. S. ascending the high Sierr
as it will pass thru great mountains
valleys 8000 or 9000 feet above
sea level and surrounded by mountain
peaks 1300 or 1400 feet high
In this region there are about 3000
mountain lakes a scenic wonderland.
Not far from Mt Whitney, the highest
point 14,502 ft. above sea level, is the
lowest land in the U. S. which is
280 feet below sea level. 2nd article
a circular road planned that shall
link all the great National Parks in
the West. This road would start
and end at Denver, 3500 miles.
