chosen, so it makes things rather awkward & I
never know whose time it is to pray. Worked later
than ever this aft.

September 6, 1922 – Wednesday
Note books of V S. to correct, so nothing doing this
a.m. in the way of straightening, but went at the
bottom shelf again this aft., and cleared out a lot
of old covers to former registers running back
for over 20 yrs. Found 2 five lb. packages of clay dust
for modeling, a box of unopened chalk, etc. Got
most of the pesky things finished up yes. aft., but
had all those color balls to sort, put strings in, etc.
but had gotten things in such shape that it was
not hard to do. Missed girls prayer meeting again
this aft., as I was deep in those old registers, tho
most of them proved to be only covers. Asked Mrs. E.
about throwing out the latter but she wouldn't
hear to it; told her of the break & she said there were
a lot more in the library, so then, with the help of
2 girls we carried the remains over there where I
marked & sorted them all which occupied me
till six p.m.; they run back for 10 yrs. & there's not
a complete file among the whole lot, not even
last year's. If I had my say so I'd throw out at least
the 1st half of them. Had planned to begin on this
cabinet tomorrow, but was told to leave till the holi-
days [holidays] & begin on note-books; the 1st time I'd heard
of this. Am sorry to stop "while I had my hand in",
but as I'm so weary, physically – the heat has
been very bad – it may be just as well. The Suf. S. has
none, so tomorrow I'll begin with Saya ma N's
class & work up, as in that way I hope to be able to

get a better grasp of what they've been studying
than I would otherwise.

September 7, 1922 – Thursday
Began on inspecting notebooks today, something
I didn't know had to be done till yesterday. Also
got several jobs waiting in my room off hand. Am
way behind on papers, so took a week's bunch over
to the teacher who has C.E. tomorrow, but asked her to
bring them all back to me. Am still sorting those par-
quetry [parquetry] papers; not much around this mo., so haven't
that to interfere as much as usual with this kind of a
task. Finished the 1st S. & began on the II; these look
very nice, but not a great deal of work done. Will
never work as hard again as I have these last two
wks; didn't realize I was so tired & nervous; was go-
ing [going] at breakneck speed, & now that I've relaxed a
little know what a strain I was under. Have not
been sleeping so well, either; shall certainly try to
rest over the week-end. So much writing I ought to do,
but have despaired of getting any of it off hand till
the Oct. holidays; ditto sewing. But if I can gather up
all the other odds & ends I'll be happy. The new sewing
inspectress was here yes. a.m., but I did not see her; she
came again today, however, so I was with her for an
hour or more; she borrowed two each of mine & Mrs. E's
homemade colored handkies to show & use as mod-
els [models], promising to return later. She had a piece of white em –
& cut work with her, which she had designed herself,
which I think will be very effective when finished.
We haven't had any victrola music for sometime.
Forgot to write out the list of notables with Sept. birth-
days [birthdays] for this wk. so must do it for next. Do wish
the bulletin board was relieved of its coat of
