Sir:

Referring to its letter of 4 Aug., 1902, and the reply of your predecessor, of 9 Aug., 1902, the Board encloses herewith, for your information, a copy of Department letter of 18 Nov., 1902, stating that,in view of the declination of Mr. Thomas F. Parker, who, at the time of the appointment of Mr. William P. Ford, as Second Assistant Keeper of Yaquina Head, Oreg., light-station, stood first on the eligible list, the Civil Service Commission has now approved the selection of Mr. Ford as effective from 1 July, 1902.

Inclosed the Board sends you a copy of a letter from Mr. John Anderson of Toledo, Oregon, asking permission to land his fish boat at a convenient place inside of the light-house reservation at Yaquina Head, Oreg.

The Board requests you to confer with the Engineer of the 13th Light-House District, and with him make a joint report and recommendation in the matter.

Sir:

The recommendation in the annual report of the Engineer of the 13th Light-House District, that a keeper's dwelling be erected at the Yaquina Head, Oregon Light-Station, was considered by the Board at its session on 2 Oct. '99, when it was decided that the Board should recommend in its own annual report that an appropriation of $4,000 should be made for this purpose.

Commander J.C. Morong, U.S.N. Inspector 13th Light-House District, Portland, Oregon.

Sir:

Enclosed is sent you for delivery, Department letter of 23 June, '98, addressed to Mr. Harry Sherman Littlefield, appointing him Second Assistant Keeper of Yaquina Head, Oreg., light-station, with compensation at the rate of $550 a year, from date of entering on duty, in place of Mr. James B. Hermann, transferred.

There is also returned for the action of the Local Civil Service Board for the Light-House Service, the application of Mr. Littlefield on Form 1025.
