Sir:

On the 18th of November 1870, the Board requested that the President reserve Lots 3 and 4 of section 8, Township 11 W, Willamette Meridian, Oregon, for purposes of a Light House at Yaquina. Subsequently, after correspondence with the Engineer of the District, (then Major Williamson) there was purchased of Lester P. and Sophronia S. Baldwin. Lots 23 and 24, Section 7; Lot 5 and N. W. 1/4 of S. W. 1/4; and S. W. 1/4 of N. W. 1/4 of Section 8, of the same Township.

Lots 3 and 4 of Section 8 have been withdrawn from sale and can be reserved on application of the Board. Will you please to state whether in your opinion the reservation of the whole or a part of this land is to be desired, or whether it should be again opened for sale.

Sir: In reply to your letter of the 2nd instant, I have to inform you that monthly reports of operations should be forwarded to the Board as soon after the close of the month as possible, so as to embody the month's actual operations.

Sir: The U.S. Treasurer informs this office that your deposits with the Sub Treasury at San Francisco and with the 1st Nat'l Bank, Portland, Oregon, are not divided into Light House funds and Engineer funds.

It is important that this division be made at the bank and you will please attend to it that it be done as soon as practicable, and hereafter you will keep the accounts at the bank separate.

Sir: I have to acknowledge your telegram of Dec. 21, ultimo, relating to the lighting of Foulweather Light, and to say that the notice to mariners will be made accordingly.

Sir: The Board has been infromed that on the 30th of September last, cisterns were built by you at New Dungenness Light House (the Keeper being in great need of water as previously reported by you) and that no pipes or other arrangements were made connecting them with the roof surfaces by means of which they were expected to be filled and that two months afterward, that is on the 30th of November last, the connections had not yet been made.

The Board desires that you will at once cause the connections to be ade, and that you will forthwith discharge the foreman of the party who left the work in this condition.
