Sir: Inclosed is a transmitted, for your information, a copy of Notice to Mariners No. 105 of 1985, giving notice that the height of the Yaquina Bar Rear Range light has been increased 10 feet, and also that a fixed white beacon light was established on July 1 near the outer end of the cribwork bulkhead at Coquille Point, entrance to Yaquina River, Oreg.

the construction should commence. The design of placing a structure like that at Ediz Hook is approved. You are desired to forward to the Board a requisition for the lens for Yaquina light which will be of the 5th order. You state that less than 270° arc of visibility is required. Please to state how much less and what kind of light it should be. This will involve a study of the kind of light to be used at Cape Foulweather. At some time convenient to you please to have made and forwarded a set of drawings showing the structures to be placed at Yaquina.

Dec. 28 From Engineer Secretary Maj G. H. Elliot. to Col. R.S. Williamson Corps Engineers. Sir: In reply to your letter of the 19th instant, I have to say that the deed of land proposed to be purchased at Yaquina Bay, when submitted to the District Attorney should be accompanied by an abstract of title on which his opinion can be based, or else he should be requested to procure the same at the expense of the United States. If there is no conveyance at Yaquina, it is supposed the County

1871 will receive. The deck plates and railings will be made in San Francisco. Please to copy the drawings and return them to the Board.

At your leisure you are requested to furnish drawings showing the L.H. sites at Yaquina and Trinidad Head, and of the Light Houses constructed there- the positions of the structures should always be determined with reference to the exterior lines of the Government property and located on the plats.

Feb.23 From Engineer Secretary Maj. G. H. Elliot. To Col. R.S. Williamson Corps Engineers Sir: Referring to your letter of the 15th instant, relative to lantern for Trinidad Head Light- station, I have to say that lanterns for the Pacific Co. Light-stations will be made on this coast and sent to you, but requisitions there- for should be made in time for your constructions. These requisitions should not be embodied with the requisitions for lenses.

The lanterns for the 4th,5th and 6th orders are the same, and you can use the one which arrives first, for Yaquina.

A box containing books pamphlets, &c, will be sent to you as soon as you inform the Board where you will have it addressed. For Enclosure see Volume 5 page Board Journal.

From Engineer Secretary Major G. H. Elliot. To Major H. M. Robert. Corps Engineers.

Sir:

On the 18th of November 1870, the Board requested that the President reserve Lots 3 and 4 of section 8, Township 11 W, Willamette Meridian, Oregon, for purposes of a Light House at Yaquina. Subsequently, after correspondence with the Engineer of the District, (then Major Williamson) there was purchased of Lester P. and Sophronia S. Baldwin. Lots 23 and 24, Section 7; Lot 5 and N. W. 1/4 of S. W. 1/4; and S. W. 1/4 of N. W. 1/4 of Section 8, of the same Township.

Lots 3 and 4 of Section 8 have been withdrawn from sale and can be reserved on application of the Board. Will you please to state whether in your opinion the reservation of the whole or a part of this land is to be desired, or whether it should be again opened for sale.

Please to reply at your earliest convenience.
