Sir:

In reply to your letter of the 6th instant, I have to request that you will advise the Board when the lens for Cape Foulweather Light House is sent to San Francisco. The lens should be sent to "Major H.M. Robert, care Major R.S. Williamson, San Francisco" ???.

You will please notify the Board in all cases where lenses are sent.

Williamson Corps Engineers Sir: Referring to your letter of the 6th instant I have to say that the employment of a photographer on the terms heretofore state by you to go in the "Shubrick" on her next trip for the supply of the Pacific Coast lights is approved.

Robert Corps Engineers Your letter of the 4th instant addressed to the Secretary of the Treasury reporting for duty in the Light House Establishment has been received at this office and I have to inform you that you are assigned to duty as Light House Engineer of the 13th Light House District which embraces the Pacific Coast of the United State north of the northern boundary of California. Col. R. S. Williamson U.S.A.

Engineers, Light House Engineer for the 12th &13th Districts, will turn over to you the property pertaining to the 13th District, and the directions which he has received from this Board in relation to it.

A box containing books pamphlets, &c, will be sent to you as soon as you inform the Board where you will have it addressed. For Enclosure see Volume 5 page Board Journal.

June 15 To Major H. M. Robert Corps Engineers Sir: The following telegram has been this day sent you: Balances special appropriations for Light Houses to not revert on thirtieth June. Few appropriations are now available.

June 20 From Engineer Secretary Major G.H. Elliot To Major H.M. Robert Corps Engineers Sir: OF the appropriations made for works for your District by the Act of March 3rd 1871, there now remains in the Treasury only a balance of $23,628.56 on account of Cape Foulweather light-station, Oregon 1871-72.

Circular June 15 From Engineer Secretary Major G.H. Elliot To Major H.M. Robert Corps Engineers Sir: Your special attention is called to the requirements of the enclosed circular and the modifications there of which will be made necessary by the act making appropriations for the Light House Establishment for the year 1872-73, which will be sent to you as soon as it is printed.

1872 may be stated as "on or about". The form in regard to Cape Flattery will be forwarded at once giving the characteristic times of sound and interval.

July 12 From Engineer Secretary Major G.H. Elliot To Major H. M. Robert Corps Engineers Sir: Please inform this office whether the lens and lantern have been received for Cape Foulweather Light House.

July 23 From Engineer Secretary Major G.H. Elliot To Major H. M. Robert Corps Engineers Sir: Your letter of the 8th instant transmitting estimates for July 1872 is received. With a view of saving the General Appropriation for Repairs which always runs short at the end of the fiscal year, you will habitually (unless otherwise directed or unless there is some especial reason to the contrary, of which you will inform the Board) pay your office and other incidental expenses, from your Special Appropriations.
