1871 Mar. 8 From Engineer Secy Maj. Geo. H. Elliot To Col. R. S. Williamson Corps Engineers The following extract from the proceedings of the Board in session on the 6th instant is sent you for your information. On notion it was ordered that the northern boundary of the 12th Light-House District on the Pacific Coast be extended to the line separating the States of California and Oregon and that the 13th Light House District will extend from the boundary of the 12th Light House District to the Northern limits of the United States. It having been reported to the Board that an additional Engineer officer had been assigned to Light House duty on the Pacific Coast after consultation and discussion it was ordered that the officers of that District will have their offices within the limits of the District.

Robert Corps Engineers Sir: There is sent to you herewith for your information an extract from the proceedings of the last meeting of the Board, concerning the office of the Light House Engineer of the 13th District. A box containing books pamphlets, &c, will be sent to you as soon as you inform the Board where you will have it addressed. For Enclosure see Volume 5 page Board Journal.

Jan 16 From Engineer Secretary Major G.H. Elliot To Major H.M. Robert Corps Engineers With Woodruffs letter to Williamson of April 1st last was sent a list of contents of sixteen boxes and sixteen pieces. All the parts you report as missing were included Telegraph to Michler for the list. You must have made some mistake. If this will delay lighting beyond first of March inform the Board.

Jan. 20 From Engineer Secretary Major G.H. Elliot To Major H.M.Robert Corps Engineers Sir: Please find herewith a bill of lading and a list of contents of the sixteen boxes and sixteen pieces which you report to have received, comprising and containing the lantern for Cape Foulweather Light House. You will see that all the rafters and tie rods were contained in box No. 6. The sixteen lantern posts were contained in boxes 10,11,12 & 13. As these boxes were received it is supposed that there must have been a miscount and that you will find all of the above mentioned pieces. In regard to the floor lights, they do not appear in the list of contents of the boxes, but they

answer your purpose the general supervision of the works to continue in yourself without the necessity of a Superintendent of Construction.

However if you cannot get along without such an employee, the Board will forward your nomination to the Secretary of the Treasury with its approval, when you send the name of the person you desire for the position.

Sixteen boxes in addition to three boxes glass for Foulweather lantern were shipped in March by Ocean Queen. Bills of lading were sent to Williamson. Michler has been directed to have Winship hunt them up and inform you. If necessary go to San Francisco yourself and inform Board of results.

Were the bronze rabbets of the missing lantern posts received? Michler says the three boxes were lost.
