Notice to Mariners (no. )

United States of America {carat: "Northwest Coast. "} Oregon. Light-House at Cape Foulweather (Yaquina Point Head).

Notice is hereby given that a Light-House has been erected Cape Foulweather. (Yaquina Point Head) Oregon, and the lights will be erected on or about the night of the 1st of March 1st of February 1873, and every night after from sunset to sunrise.

The focal plane is 81 feet above the ground, and 150 feet above sea level. The lights can be seen in clear weather from the deck of a vessel, 15 feet above the sea, at a distance of eighteen {carat: "and a half"} nautical miles. The lens {carat: "is dioptic, of the"} a 1st order Fresnel, illuminating of the horizon 240 degrees {carat: "and"} will show a fixed white light.

The tower {carat: "is"} of brick, is painted white, and the lantern {carat: "is painted"} black.

The Keepers' Dwelling, a two-story frame building, east of the tower is painted white.

Sir: The following telegram has been this day sent you: Sixteen lantern deck-plates, and sixteen cases Lantern Apparatus received at Foulweather. Following at missing: eight lantern posts, sixteen floor lights, sixteen rafters, and sixteen tie-rods. Gene Michler telegraphs "not in San Francisco."

Chairman Light House Board, Washington, D.C.

Sir:

I have the honor to make the following Report of Operations for the month of December, 1872.

Cape Foulweather Lt. Station, Ogn. Put in new landing and 2 flights of stairs. Completed outer brick wall. Continued landing from Newport & grading. Completed inside white-wash. Commenced taking down scaffolding.

Probable Operations for January. Commence putting up Lantern. Continue grading and cleaning up grounds. Haul materials from Newport.

Cape Hancock Lt Station, W.T. Sent men & materials to L.H. Station. Commenced hauling materials to L.H. site. Laid brick foundation. Partly enclosed oil house.

Probable Operations for January. Complete Oil-House, except painting & plumbing -

SIR:

I have the honor to make the following Report of Operations for the month of January 1873. Cape Foulweather Lt. Station, Ogn. Received & hauled from Newport the lantern except missing boxes. Completed lantern floor (except floor lights) and iron work in vestibule & watch room. Continued grading & cleaning of grounds.

Probable Operations in February. Completed brick work under lantern floor. Cement wash watch room. Complete taking down of scaffolding. Build fence around tower.

Cape Hancock Lt Station, W.T. Completed Oil House except painting & plumbing.

Probable Operations in February. Paint as weather will permit.

Sir: I have the honor to make the following Report of Operations for the month of March 1873.

Cape Foulweather Lt Station, Ogn. Completed painting of Iron Work of Tower. Graded outside of enclosure on west side of tower.

Probable Operations for April Complete work, if missing parts of Lantern are received.

Point Adams, Ogn. Inspected, in company with Capt Spotts, LH Inspector, with reference to location of Light House & Fog Signal.

Cape Hancock Lt Station, W.T. Completed painting. Put up eave-troughs & pipes. Repaired chimney. Inspected Oil House as completed - Examined, with Capt. Spotts, Keeper & Assistants.

Cape Flattery Lt. Station, W.T. Put Fog Signal into complete repair. Inspected Fog Signal, & examined Keeper & Assistants, with Capt. Spotts.

Probable Operations for April. Make estimate & plans to submit to Lt. Ho. Board for tank for temporary ??? & water fog Signal.
