Chairman Light House Board, Washington, D.C. SIR: I have the honor to transmit herewith a communication from Chas L. Brown, contractor for Light Keepers’ Dwelling at Cape Foulweather Lt. Station, Og’n, and to recommend that the extension of time asked for, sixty days (60), be granted, as I think the delays have been caused by difficulties connected with transportation, and that due diligence has been used by the contractor. Notwithstanding all my efforts to secure transportation of materials for the L.H. Tower at Cape Foulweather, fully half the season has been lost by unavoidable delays from lack of materials at the Cape.

SIR:
I have to submit the following Report of Operations for June: Cape Foulweather Lt. Station, Oregon. Shipped metal work to San Francisco, as no vessel could be chartered from Portland to Foulweather except at exorbitant rates. Shipped stone work & miscellaneous freight from San Fran- to the Cape; also all the L.H. materials (per??? schooner) from Newport to the Cape. Completed grading about L.H. Site, and collection of sand. Continued work on Tower foundation. Transported all materials at top of Tramway to L.H. Site. Probable Operations for July. Transportation of materials from San Francisco. Continue work on Tower. Commence work on Light Keeper’s Dwelling. Cape Flattery Lt. Station, Wash. Ter. Completed & painted wood & engine house, & cistern. Delivered 25 tons coal from Neah Bay, in Wood House. Made drawings of completed work. Inspected Lt. Station. Left Fog Signal in charge of Keeper and one assistant, who did not wish further instruction in its management. Cistern has no water, and the Whistle can not be regularly blown (except for practice) early??? winter, without great expense. Will transmit at an early day, in-

SIR: In reply to letter from your office dated Sept 3, 1872, asking information relating to Cape Foulweather Lt Station, Ogn, I have to state that the Keeper’s Dwelling has been completed; the Oil House walls have been completed; the Tower Walls (Sept 30”) are built 22 feet above the lower floor; all materials (including Lantern, Lens, & c) are on hand or now discharging, except 23 lbs??? Bricks & 25 Bbls Lime, already ordered from San Francisco; a full force of Mechanics, Machinist, & Laborers are employed; and with average weather & no further delay from inability to secure Steam transportation (sailing vessel carrying materials to Foulweather again partially wrecked) the light can be exhibited on or before January 1st 1873.
