266 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE May 28/83 Be it remembered that on this the 28th day of May 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets as a board of Equalization pursuant to adjournment on May 24, 1883 The folowing Officers are present to wit: His Honor the mayor H G Struve and Councilmen O F Cosper, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald and U M Rasin Thereupon the following proceeds wiht the examinatin and equalizatin of the General Assessment Roll, for the year 1883 Thereupon the following changes are made in said rell to wit: The assessment of Henry Webster on Lot 1 Block 31 Maynard's reduced on value of Lands to $1350.00 & on Lot 2 Block 31 Maynard's reduced on Value of Lands to $1150.00. The assessment of Melody Choir on Block 16 Edes & Knights reduced on value of Lands to $2000.00 The assessment of Joseph Ade on Lot 1 Block 25 Denny's reduced on value of Lands to $3000.00 The assessment of Hulda B Young on Lots 1&4 Block 25 Boren's reduced on value of Lands to $600.00 The description of H A Smith on Lot 5 Blk 2 Boren's The assessment of Mrs E M McGilvra on Lot 1 Block G Denny's fixed at $600.00 on value of Lands The assessment of Almira Kidd on Lot 5 Block 4 Judkins's reduced on value of Lands to $250.00 & on Lot 4 Block 11 Judkin's reduced on Value of Lands to $250.00. The assessment of Henry L Yesler on Lot 2 Block 4 Boren's reduced on value of Lands to $8000.00 & on Lot 1 Block 4 Boren's reduced on Value of Lands to $11000.00. & on fraction of Lot 5 Block 1 Maynard's reduced on value of Lands to $10500.00 & 105 acres of land in Yesler's Donation Claim reduced on value of Lands to $42000. & on a tract of land fronting on Front & Mill Streets reduced on Value of Lands to $90000. Whereas on no further complaints being presented as to any assessment roll and said roll having been duly examined corrected & equalized. It is ordered that the said assessment

272 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June 1/83 following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald, Manning & Rasin. Against adoption none Special Orders of the Day And now in pursuance to the notice duly published the Council proceeds to the correction and equalization of the assessment roll for the Improvement of Pike Street under Ordinance No. 375 and Files May 14 1883. Pending which such roll is referred to a special Committee to wit: Clancy, Gasch & Manning with instructions to report therein Monday June 4 1883 at 8 o'clock p.m. Miscellaneous Ordered that South 3rd Street be graded from Mill Street to Main Street and that the Attorney submit an Ordinance therefor. Adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of said order Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald, Manning & Rasin. Against the same none. And now W.B. Thompson tenders his resignation of the Office of Policeman. Thereupon the same is accepted. And now the Council proceeds to fill such vacany by an election. Whereupon Charles Lind receiving a majority of all the votes of the Councilmen present is duly declared elected to fill such vacancy for the term provided by law. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Monday June 4 1883 at 8 o'clock p.m. Attest: E.S. Osborne Clerk Approved H G Struve Mayor June 4/83 Be it remembered that on this the 4th day of June 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. 286 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June 25/83 Ordered that all the foregoing bids be and are referred to a Committee towit: Cosper, Clancy and Gasch. Unfinished Business And now the Council proceeds to consider the Report of the Street Committee on the grading of 4th Street; thereupon after due consideration it is Ordered that Fourth Street be graded and that Sidewalks be constructed on both sides of said Fourth Street from the South line of Seneca Street to the North line of Mill Street. And that the City Attorney be and he is hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance therefor. Adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of said order Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald and Rasin. Against the same none. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Thursday June 28, 1883 at 8 o'clock p.m. Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved H G Struve Mayor June 28/83 Be it remembered that on this 28th day of June 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. Petitions Rec'd From Wa Chong & Co. for the privilege of building a sidewalk on South 3rd Street. Referred to Committee on Streets and Street Improvement. From Star Mfg Co. for the right to build a Water Tank and Wharf in Seneca Street. Referred to Streets. And now the Council proceeds to open the bids for the Improvement of South 3rd street under Ordinance No. 399, which bids are as follows, towit: Strong and Harkins earthwork per cu yd 42c

297 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE July 6/83 of said Rolls is laid over until Monday July 16, 1883 at 8 o'clock pm And now the Surveyor submits the Plans & Specifications for the Improvement of Cherry Street under Ordinance No 395; thereupon after due examination the same are approved. And now the Surveyor submits the Plans & Specifications for the Improvement of Fourth Street from the South side of Seneca Street to the North side of Mill Street under Ordinance No 395; as amended by ordinance No 408; thereupon after due examination the same are approved. And now the Surveyor submits the Plans & Specifications for the Improvement of 9th Street under Ordinance No 395; as amended by ordinance No 408; thereupon after due examination the same are approved.
