1859 August 3rd Begun to machine wheat about 11 Oclock Something out [offen] nearly all day made 2 good Runs in evening

4th Maching wheat got done about 12 Oclock, a little bothered, going to Mr Hunts place; to get out that, very dry Windy & Hot. Wind very high yesterday & ^{Jas Shields Brought home our yearling home —} to day, carried machine to Mr Hunts place & ^downfix it.

5th Began to machine at Mr Hunts place this morning chumney with it cloudy & like for Rain, worming & succoring fresh ground this morning, Hilling up lot, Henry Hooping some Barrels & then at work with Balance of them in Tobacco finished Hilling up Lot Tobacco & succoring fresh ground Plowed little Tobacco by Corn house & Cotton Patch Harrowing Cotton etc etc

6 Finished machining wheat at Mr Hunts place soon I went to Fannies & my wife & Sallie finished choping cotton Hilling up up Tobacco & Potatoe made Turnip Patch Cutting down Pines etc etc, sewed Turnips in Lot & fresh ground

7 This morning cloudy & like for rain fine Rain yesterday at Fannies & all up & down the River & none hire of any consequ[ence] It rained the other side of the River too On Friday but we are very dry & every thing^{burning up}

8th Foggy this morning & yesterday morning waggon & Cart gone home this morning my waggon & Mr Hunts waggon carried machine home changed Road this morning by Peach Orchard cutting down Pines etc fixing to raise top of my Barn tomorrow or next day —

9th Toping^Tobacco& Halling Rails this morning & for Cross fence in Lot & then to fixing Place Beds & Covering

1859 Augt 9th I am going to the CH to day to see about Mrs Stones business as Comm^r Agreed with Cothran for another year as overseer —dry weather yet Mr Waldron brot another Load Shingles 1977 hundred above like the others I got of him @$3½ pr Thousand. dry weather yet

10. 10th Raised The Top of our Barn to day Mr Cothran Jordan Sandy & Lowry Came up to help us got it done & they went home little after 12 Oclock I went to Edge Hill to meeting — dry here yet tho fine Rains not far off

11th I stayed at settling with Mr Faris Whitehead wrote Several letters etc one to Bro. Jno & Jonathan Duffy & Henry Wingfield, Mr Chummy & Henry & claiborne at work on Barn, balance Cutting clem spining & drying fruit

12th Same work to day I am going to aspen Grove this evening & James Shields

13the went to meeting to day Mrs Hunt Came back here dry & Hot yet 14th went to meeting

15th went to Court. Balance claiborne little Henry & Jim gone to Fannies to thrash wheat Halled 2 Logs to Mill & Halled plank from mill wormed & Succored & toped Tobacco got done a little after 12 oclock round ing & Jointing shingles in evening I Bob Worked here this day —

16th Mr chumbly Hunting Corn wheat or something to Eat. Henry Rounding shingles Bob Here again this morning —

1859 Mr Fox at work on Well 2nd day Henry halling Rock etc Ja^s Shields Bro^t me 9 Barrels Corn, fine day -

Novr. 4th Mr Keatts finished chimney & left - Mr Fox at work on well, fine day. Johns Estates Pleasant & charles Halled Rocks to day & Henry all day

= 5th Fox at work on well chumney gone to the store, 2 Boys Cutting Henry Halling wood, sent Robin to shop to be shod before, Fox & Horse been here since 9 Oclock Thursday^Wednesdayleft Saturday evening fine weather Mrs Hunt came back here this morning but going to Johns again. Fox left ½ after 2 Oclock this evening & horse went to Plantation in evening. No Fox, Hewed p^s for Ice House in morning Killed little Beef weighted 142 lbs Halled up ½ stack Oats, cutting in new ground, Isaac overby here to day quite cool —

8 no Fox yet I went to Pannills & Tan yard got no Leather Sent for waggon fixings for Lynchg in morning chumbly shingling Henry, House claiborne & Jerry Smith Cutting malling Rails & wood & Piling –

9th Mr Fox has not come. Henry went after waggon & started to Lynchg this morning malling Mr Chumbly & little Henry at work Negro House

10th Nails gave out this evening I got back in Two days from Lynchg

28th Sent to Store & got shroud for Chumbly child & sent it there machine put down at shields by Ben himself Bybee sick & did not go there at all Nannie gone to Mrs Colemans again to stay all night striping Tobacco, claiborne gone to help Frank Blanks raise Barn, Finished Thrashing wheat at shields & moved machine to Mr Hunts place this evening etc etc etc

29th I am complaining to day —

30. Toping Tobacco this morning in new ground. working out the p^s next to Cap^t Whiteheads fixing down machine at Mr Hunts place Charles Complaing last night gave him some medicine Mrs Hunt complaining - fine growing weather, tho ground not wet yet. Mr Wright Came to work on yard worked till night & taken sick in the night

31st Mr Wright Sick this morning & gone from working Tobacco down below new Barn machine at Mr Hunts place fine shower of Rain last night or evening Jacob P Graves here,

Augt 1st Halled Load Rails some wood & then Plowing & Hilling up Tobacco at near new ground. Set in Poles for straw. Mr Wright Came again this morning

2nd Thrashing wheat this morning & finished by Dinner here. Cothran & his hands help us & 2 Horses cart & steers, - Finished Plowing Our Tobacco in evening Hilling up etc.

3rd Hilling up new ground Tobacco Sewed Turnip Seed this morning White & Milley Brot. home by our folks yesterday from plantation.

Short Corn & shattered put in & 25½ Barrels in new Corn House on Road,

Decr 5 Finished Housing at aspen Grove Plan put in House on Road new corn house for to hall home 50 Bb^ls put in shed for Overseer 5 Bb^ls. put in old Corn house on hill for use of Plantation 52½ Bb^ls Short Corn to feed hogs etc supposed 18 Bb^ls shatter corn for our Hogs Large Pile settled wheat & Cotton to day 16½ Bushels on hand down in Hd^d & some in Basket to sow where Corn Piles was & some in Bb^l sorry for chickens - etc etc -

6th Cut in new ground & Halled wood, Halled Corn from Ja^s Shields, 6½ Bb^ls @$3. I went with Mrs Hunt to her Place to try to rent it failed,- very cold. Bob has not been here this whole week but to Eat

7. Fast day at Strait Stone & meeting Sent Robin to shop, cutting & Halling wood. very cold,- got 985 feet at Colo Dickinson sale @55¢ pr 100 am^tg to $5.41 Due H. W Faris for sawing Plank 63

8th Sent Henry to Colo Dickinsons got all the plank bot at his sale. & the Log sawed at Faris, Halled wood Cutting in new ground to day we went to meeting^SS.

9 Sent Henry to Dickinson & got all the Plank stilling one day Cutting & finished new ground on road

10. finished making, Low wine Cutting down Pines. Bot 6 Hogs from Hodnett. Killed them Monday

11th Halled Corn for Mr Hunt from JR shields
