10 Journal of the Proceedings of the Oct 22 1890

Be it remembered that on this the 22nd day of October A.D. 1890. The Board of Aldermen of the City of Seattle meets pursuant to adjournment and after recess in the New City Hall in the Butler Block.

The following members are present.

Prest Geo W. Hall in the Chair.

At roll call the following members answered to their names

Bogardus, Holbrook, Korn, Miller, Pontius Snyder, Wald, Wilcox and Mr. President.

The following proceedings are had: Journal of previous meeting and approved.

Petitions

Petitions for retail liquor licenses were read from the following named persons Korthern and Weberputz. J. Conrad Devet and Salvey, Clancey & Burns Sothe and Drumm Noel Bengley Fortlomi & Levy Fred Beuse Pearson and Brand Pinkham & Coyle L. Chopard Gumbert & Leibman. Said petitions were read and ref to Com on L & R.

Petition of H. Lapworth for an outlet to his property lot 3 & 4 blk 41 10th & Stewart St. Read and ref to Street Com.

Petition of J. B. Denney for Sewer Harrison St from Oak to the Bay. Read and ref to Com on Sewers and Drains.

Petition from G. C. Phinney - that the present Janitor of the Butler Blk be appointed Janitor of the New City Offices. Read and ref to the Spec Com on Janitor.

13 Board of Aldermen of the City of Seattle

B of A Bill No. 1 An Ordinance pertaining to the rights and duties of the Corporation Council under the City Charter adopted Oct. 1st 1890 & fixing the salary of our Asst. Read third time and ref back to the Judiciary Committee.

B of A Bill No. 3 An Ordinance to provide for the employment of a Janitor for the City Council and to perscribe the duties of the office and fixing the salary: Sec. No. 1 was amended so as to read Board of Aldermen and House of Delegate instead of Board of Public Works— passed by vote in favor Bogardus Holbrook Korn Pontius Snyder Ward Wilcox. Mr. President — voted against. Third reading.

B of A Bill No. 2 Ordinance to perscribe the duties of the Fire Com's and to more fully organize the fire dept. Read 3rd time and passed by full vote.

The following Communication was sent to the H of D. Gentlemen: B of A Bill No. 2 & No. 3 passed B of A Oct 22/90. B of A are now ready to meet H of D in joint session to hear & receive the Mayor's Message — H. E. O. Miller Clk Geo W. Hall Prst.

Be it remembered that on this the 24th day of October A. D. 1890 The Board of Aldermen of the City of Seattle meets pursuant to adjounment and after recess: in their room in the New City Hall: Prest Geo W. Hall in the chair. The following members are present at roll call. Bogardus Holbrook Korn Miller Pontius Snyder Wald Wilcox. Mr. President H.W. Miller City Clerk.

The following proceedings are had: Journal of the last Meeting read and approved.

Petition of D. C. Thompson Et al for lights on 7th St. read and ref to Com. on Street Lights.

Petition of H. C. Burke Et al for the grading of Thomas Ave. read and ref to the Street Com.

Petition of M. J. Calligan Et al for the planking of 11th Street read & ref to the St. Committee.

Petition of G. Kellogg Et al for lights on Main St. read & ref to Com. on Street Lights.

Petition of S. L. Henderson Et al for lights on all street read & ref to the Com. on Street Lights.

19 Board of Aldermen of the City of Seattle

B of A Bill No. 4 An Ordinance pertaining to the duties of the Coporation Council was read the 3rd time: Motion to amend by striking out Section 3. Carried. The bill was passed as amended by vote of 9 to 1. Bogardus, Holbrook Korn, Pontius Snyder Wald Wilcox and Mr. President voting in favor and Miller against the amendment. Referred to the H of D for concurrent action thereon.

B of A Bill No. 5 An Ordinance to prescribe the duties of the Board of Public Works: read third time and passed by full vote. Referred to the H of D for concurrent action thereon.

The report of the appraisers appointed to lay off & extend Broadway as a public thoroughfare as set forth in Ordinance No. 1489 passed by the Common Council August 30th 1890. Was read recommending the work be abandoned as the damages to property would be erroneous. Ref. to Jud. Com.

Motion by Korn that the City Clerk be instructed to furnish the Finance Committee with a correct list of all the property condemned for City & Street improvements and the names of the owners or agents of said property to condemned and

appraised by the City as its duly qualified appraisers. Motion was carried.

A request by Alderman Wilcox that the President request Prest. Jones to call a Special Meeting of the H of D. for Oct. 25th/1890 to take immediate action in regard to the Rhinehart matter was complied with.

On motion a recess was taken until Oct. 29th 1890.

Correction of ommission B of A Bill #4

An ordinance amending ordinance Sec 2 of ordinance #1520 entitled An Ordinance Providing for the Grading of Water Street.

Reported favorably on by Judiciary Committee and given 3rd reading passing by the following vote In favor Bogardus, Holbrook, Korn, Miller, Pontius Snyder, Wald, Wilcox, Mr. President. — 9. Against — None.
