Apr 7 1890 52 Petition of Everett Smith & W E Boone in relation to grade of Alder St St Com Committee on Streets recommend that the within petition be taken up by committee of the whole T E Jones chairman F A Twitchell

To the Honorable Mayor and Common Councilof the City of Seattle: Your petitioners would respectfully represent, that they are the owners of the two lots on the north and south sides of Alder St. and adjoining the alley between Seventh and Sixth Sts.: that by the profile now at the office of the city engineer it is proposed to grade Alder St. level at the crossing of said alley and street. Your petitioners are the most interested of any of the property holders adjacent to said crossing, in as much as they are the owners of the most of the property immediatl affected by said grade. in our opinion the present grade of the alley north from Alder St. accomodates and will amply accomodate the property adjacent thereto, and there is no occasion for the grading of the alley level across said Alder St. Wherefore your petitioners would respectfully petition that said alley be not graded across Alder St., and that the grade of Alder St the terrace between Sixth and Seventh Sts. be made with view to the best use of Alder St.\ irrespective of the grading of said alley. To the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Seattle:Your petitioners, who are owners of property on or near the line of the proposed street railway for which Mr. S L Bowman applied on the 27th inst. to your honorable body for a franchise, repectfully petition your honorable body to grant said franchise, believing that the construction of said proposed line will assist in the development of the portion of said city and of the adjacent country through which it is intended to run, and will be of great benefit to the whole city.
