99 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE. July 20th, '82 Councilmen for the Second Ward Chas McDonald John Collins Fred Gash Councilmen for the Third Ward O. F. Casper G. L. Manning Ordered that the Council now stand adjourned until July, 28th, 1882 Attest: E S. Osborne, Clerk Approved L. P. Smith, Mayor July 28th, '82 Be it remembered that on this the 28th day of July, 1882 The Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in it's Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Officers are present, to wit: His Honor the Mayor L. P. Smith and CouncilmenJohn Collins, M. Densmore, Wm A. Jennings, John Keenan, & Charles McDonald. Thereupon the following proceedings are had; A petition is received from John J McGilvra & Others praying for a sidewalk on the Street Between Cherry & Madison Streets Referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received from G. C. Phinney praying for the right to clear in Pine & 9th Streets of C.C. Terry's plat; Thereupon the same is laid over. A petition is received from Jacob Brunn regarding property on West street. Refered to Street Committee. And now the Finance Committee returns the report of the City Justice with their approval of the same. Report filed. The Street Comtee returns the petition of G. M. Bowman et al for the opening of Battery Street with recommendation that the same be granted. Thereupon the prayer of the petition is granted. And now come Frank Peters and Wm Grose and make their several applications & Bonds for retail liquor licenses for the period of 3 months from the dates Aug 10 & Aug 1st, respectively. Rasin Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions received From Walter France to correct Certificate of Purchase and to refund certain taxes paid. referred to the Judiciary and Legislative Committee From A. H. Manning et al for the opening of Third Street from Battery Street to Blanchard Street. Referred to the committee on Streets and Street Improvements From the Heirs at Law of Fred Slother Dec'd for the adjustment of sidewalk tax for Jackson Street sidewalk tax levy under Ordinance No. 283, Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements. From Roswell Scott et al for an Ordinance prohibiting the wearing of bells on animals. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements From M Densmore et al for an Ordinance changing the Grade on Union Street from Front Street to8th Street and to have Union Street u-graded. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Impr -ovements. From Robert Kaupe et al for an Ordinance to construct side walks on both sides of Union Street from Front Street to the East side of Eighth Street. Referred to the Committee on Street and Street Improvement. From Geo Harlip for the right to erect a fish stand. Referred to the Committee on Streets And Street Imrpovements From W.R. Brawley et al for the opening of Washington Street from 10th to 11th Street, and for the opening of 11th Street from Washington Street to Main Street. 137 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sept 29/82 From Finance on the matter of suit-v-James McNaught recommending that the action be dismissed. Adopted From Finance on the report of Treasurer on a/c of Main & 8th street sidewalk funds, recommending the report be adopted & the balance in the funds be transferred to the City Fund. Adopted & such balance ordered so transferred. From Streets and Street Improvements on the petition of L. S. Rowe to lay water pipe from Eastside of 2d St on Bell Street along Bell Street to Front Street, along Front Street to Battery Street, recommending that the prayer of the petition be granted. Adopted From Streets and Street Improvements on the petition of W. A. Scott et all for the opening of Mill Street from 8th to Williamson Street, thence North to intersect with Lake Street, recommending that the prayer of the petition be granted. Adopted From Streets and Street Improvements on the petition of George Kinnear et al for the grading of Second Street from Mill Street to King Street, recommending that the prayer of the petition be Granted. Adopted and Legislative adn Judiciary Committee are instructed to submit the proper ordinance to provide for such grade. [side margin] From Street and Street Improvements upon the surveyor's recommendation that Union Street be regraded, recommending that certain additional grading be done. Laid over until next meeting From Licenses and Revenue on the application of Lewis Korn for a grocery license recommending that the same be granted. Adopted and license ordered issued Applications for Licenses Received. From James W. Smith for a Retail liquor. Granted & license ordered issued. From Jacob Bersch for a Grocery, Pigeon Hole & Pool tables, Referred to Committee on Licenses and Revenue. From Bears & Parker for a Billiard table. Granted & license ordered issued. Ordered that the Committee on Fire and Water supply be & they are hereby instructed to negotiate for a lease of the ground upon which the present Engine House on Columbia Street stand for the period of five years Ordered that the assesor be & he is hereby instructed to Procure all necessary blanks for working the next city assessment.
