Ordered that the matter of reconsidering the ordinance vetoed by His Honor the Mayor & entitled "An Ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 410," be & the same is laid over until next meeting Ordered that the rate of assessment in order to provide funds to pay for the Improvement of Pine Street under Ordinance No. 421 be & the same is hereby fixed at the sum of 158 mills on the Dollar. Ordered that the Assessment Rolls for Jackson Street Improvements under Ordinance No. 442 South 4th Street Improvement under Ordinance No. 439 and Battery Street Improvement under Ordinance No. 441be & the same or hereby referred to the Committee on Licenses & Revenue. Ordered that the Specification submitted by the Surveyor for the Improvement of Columbia Street under Ordinance No. 476 be & the same are hereby approved.

Consideration of Ordinances The Attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "To make appropriation for and authorize the purchase of a fire bell," thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff. Against adoption none. The Attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "To appropriate "nine hundred dollars to purchase hose for the Fire Department," there-upon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "Fixing the time for the regular meetings of the Common Council of the City of Seattle" Laid on the table An Ordinance is submitted entitled "To repeal Ordinance No. 184" Laid on the table An Ordinance is submitted entitled "In relation to the duties of the Treasurer of the City of Seattle," thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff. COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE

Jan 4/89 Be it remembered that on this the 4th day of January 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law.

The following Officers are present, towit: His Honor the Mayor H.G. Struve and Councilmen Thomas Clancy, B.F. Day, Charles McDonald, U. M. Rasin, Otto Ranke and F.W. Wusthoff.

Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Received From M.P. Church for draining surface water and building crossing. Referred to Street Committee. From Patrick Flynn et al for the removal of obstructions by south side of Washington Street between Commercial and 2d. Referred to Street Committee. From Chas Benson for compensation for damages caused by blasting on Madison Street. Referred to Judiciary Committee. From W.C. Hawthorne et al for a gas lamp corner Union and 6th. Granted. From Seattle Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 for a room in which hold Company meetings. Granted. From Geo. F. Gilson et al for changing grade on Battery Street. Referred to Street Committee. From A.C. Baker for compensation for sidewalk built on Columbia Street. Referred to Street Committee. From Jonah E. Seaman for compensation for loss of horse by falling. Referred to City Attorney. From N. John Ronberg for correcting error in assessment. Referred to Finance Committee. From J. Schram and Co. for removal of obstructions from alley between Commercial and 2d. Referred to Street Committee. From Julia Carleton for refunding license money paid. Referred to License Committee. The Mayor calls attention to the matter of Mrs. Ingraham's petition for refunding taxes paid. Ordered that the Finance Committee be and they are hereby instructed to make immediate examination of the matter.

Consideration of Ordinances Ordered that the Ordinances to provide for a sewer in Battery Street be and the same is laid over until next meeting. Ordered that the Ordinance in relation to the duties of the Treasurer be an the same is referred to Judiciary Committee. Ordered that the Attorney be and is hereby instructed to submit by ordinances any necessary amendments to the general. Ordinance regarding assessment for taxes. And now the Council proceeds to consider an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance to amend Section one(1) of Ordinance No. 499 entitled "In addition to Auctioneers, Hawkers and Peddlers," thereupon after due examination said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff. Against adoption none. And now the Council proceeds to consider an Ordinance entitled "To amend Section Seven(7) of Ordinance No. 204 entitled "An Ordinance in relation to Licenses" thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke andWusthoff. Against adoption none. And now the Council proceeds to consider 4 ordinances each being entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to audited bills," after due consideration said Ordinances are adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff. Against adoption none. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Wednesday Jan. 9, 1884 at 7 1/2 o'clock pm.
