345 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 24/83 Ordered that a Comtee of three be appointed by His Honor the Mayor to act in conjunction with the Citizens Executive Comtee on the Matter of Illumination & Decoration. Aug 27/83 Be it remembered that on this the 27th day of August 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Officers are present to wit: Councilmen B F Day, Thomas Clancy, Geo W Harris, Charles McDonald, U M Rasin and F W Wusthoff. By reason of the absence from the City of His Honor the Mayor H G Struve Councilman U M Rasin is elected to take the position of acting Mayor to serve during such absence. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now the Comtee of the Villard Reception make the folowingrepot towit: To the Common Council of the City of Seattle: We your committee appointed to confer with the Citizens Committee in the matter of arranging a receptioin for Henry Villard & party on Completion of the Northern Pacific Railroad, respectfully report as follows We recommend: 1st The authorizing of the Street Commissioner to clean, ornament and illuminate the streets of the City at a cost not to exceed $2000.00. 2nd the appointment of a Committee of Three from this Council to advise and assist the Street Commissioner in such work and that the City attorney draw the nedcessary Ordinance. 358 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sept 7/83 And now in pursuance to notice duly given the Council to examine & Equalize the assessment Rolls for the Improvement of 4th Street under Ordinance No 395 and for the Improvement of Pine Street under Ordinance No 421. Pending which said Rolls are referred to the Street Comtee, Assessor & Attorney. And now the Council proceeds to the election of 2 additional Policemen, whereupon John Kelly and F A Minick each receiving a majority of the votes of the members of the Council are duly declared elected Policemen of the term provided by law. Ordered that a Committee of three be appointed by the Acting Mayor to investigate the petition of C K Jenner et al for the grading of Washington Street, 9th to 12th. Thereupon the Acting Mayor appoints Day, Wusthoff & Clancy such Committee. Ordered that the Attorney be & is hereby instructed to examine the matter of the forfeiture of the Contract for the Imporvement of James Street by Cummings & Strong & to report thereon. Ordered that A J Smith be & is hereby authorized to solicit orders for books until the Ordinance is relation thereto is amended.
