469 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 2/84 Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Wednesday May 7, 1884 at 8 o'clock pm Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved U M Rasin acting mayor On this 2d day ofMay 1884 immediatly after adjournment as above the Council meets pursuant to call of His Honor the Mayor Present: His Honor the Mayor H G Struve & Councilmen Thos Clancy, B F Day, Geo W Harris, Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke, U M Rasin & F W Wusthoff And now the Council proceeds to open & Consider the bids for the Construction of a sewer in Washington Street which bids read as follows: to wit: S G Simpson per foot $4.10 footings per MBM [thousand board feet] $17.50 Wm Harkins per foot $4.20 footings per MBM [thousand board feet] $19.00

Ordered that the contract be awarded to S G Sipson upon his executing a bond in the sum of $2500.00 And now the Council proceeds to open and consider the bids for the construction of sewers in Mill & James Streets, which bids read as follows, to wit: Wm Harkins $3300. S G Simpson $3445. Ordered that the contract be awarded to Wm Harkins]] upon his executing a bond in the sum of $2000.00 Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned.

Ordered that the matter of the 4th Street grade be & is hereby referred to a Comtee to wit: Wusthoff, McDonald & Keenen Ordered that the Coucil stand now adjourned until Wednesday May 14th at 8 o'clock pm attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor May 14/84 Be it remembered that on this the 14th day of May1884 the CommonCouncil of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment TheFollowing Officers are preent to wit: His Honor the Mayor H G Struve an Councilmen Thos Clancy, B F Day, JohnKeenen, Charles McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke, U M Rasin, and F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Rec'd From John H Carr et al remonstrating against the proposed grading of Madison Street from end of present grade to Lake Washington. Referred to Wusthoff, Ranke & Clancy as a Speial Comtee. From W D Wood et al remonstrating against granting any license to R Pritchard to Retail Liquors on the east end of Jackson Street. Referred to Comtee on Licenses From Thos T Minor et al fro grading Cherry Street from 9th & Broadway Referred to Street Comtee. From Angus McKenzie et al for the right of Angus McKenzie to dispose of books [?] by the Presbyterian Board of Publication without the purchase or money. Denied Communications Rec'd

480 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE May 21/84 equilization of the Assessment Roll of 1884 And now Franklin Matthias and Executors & Trustees of the Terry Estate petitioned in writing for a reduction in the assessment of Said Estate Laid over. Adjourned until Thursday May 22 at 8 o'clock pm Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved U M Rasin President of the Council May 22/84 On this the 22d day of May 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment as a Board of Equalization. Present Councilmen, Thos Clancy, B F Day, Geo W Harris, Chas McDonald, U M Rasin & F W Wusthoff By reason of the absence of His Honor the Mayor H G Struve, Coucilmen U M Rasin is appoointed President of the council to serve during such absence. And now the Council proceeds with the examination and equalization of the Assessment Roll for 1884. The Puget Sound National Bank asks a reduction of their assment. Laid over Ordered that A A Denny & D T Denny be notified to show cause if any they have, why additional property should not be added to their assessment on Monday May 26, 1884 at 8 o'clock pm Ordered that the following changes & Corrections be made is said assessment Roll to wit: C T Dose on sec's 9&10 Tp24NR4E Lots 2&10 reduced to $125. James Mitchell on Lot 3 B 15 Yesler's fractional Block reduced to $50. J W George changed to read under 1/6/of E 1/2 of Lot 1 B 10 Maynard's M N Maddock $1000 on personal property taken off Walter Clancy & McNaught on Block 13 Maynard's reduced to $1200.
