503 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE July 9/84 Be it remembered that on this the 9th day of July 1884 the Common Councl of the city of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment The following officers are present to wit: His Honor the mayor H G Struve and councilmen B F Day, Geo W Harris, Chas Mc Donald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke, U M Rasin & F W Wusthoff Petitioins Rec'd From John H Hummell et al for opening Broadway Street between Mill and Madison Streets. Referred to Street Comtee Communications Rec'd From Surveyor submitting an estimate of the cost of planking foot of Marion Street Committee Reports Rec'd From Fire Comtee rejecting the petition of Lowman & Cobb et al of an Ordinance preventing the firing of fire crackers. Adopted From Cemetary Comtee submittins a propsal of the City Sexton to remove bodies from Odl Cemetary. Ordered filed Licenses Ordered Issued Ordered that license be issued as follows to wit: Frank Lessman for Grocery license for 3 months from July 13 1884 Shaw & Alger for Retail license for 3 months from July 9 Weir & Love for Retail license for 3 months from July 10 John McCary for Retail license for 3 months from July 16 Ordinances The atty submits an Ordinance entitled "For the improvement of a portion of Fifth Street" after due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Day, Harris, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff Against adoption none The Atty submits an Ordinance entitled "To amned Sections 4 and 5 of Ordinance No 246 entitled 'an ordinance fixing the pay fees and compensation of the city officers of the City of Seattle'" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Day, Harris, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin Wusthoff Against adoption none The Atty submits an Ordinance entitled "For fixing the rate of Levy and

Referred to Special Comtee on purchasing an Engine with instructions to confer with the Chief of the Fire Dept and Chief Engineer. Communications Rec'd From Chief Lind resigning as a member of the Police force Resignation Accepted Reprots Rec'd From Surveyor submitting a plat of the new Cemetary referred to Comtee on Public Grounds From Atty on the petitions of G N Alexander to construct Jackson Street Grade [?] into City funds [?] referred to Judiciary Comtee
