728 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Dec 24 1885 Be it remembered that on this 24th day of Dec 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to call. The following officers are present to wit:his honor the Mayor H L Yesler & Councilmen, R. H.Calligan, J. Furth, G. W. Hall, W. A. Harrington, John Keenen, T. W. Lake, Chas McDonald, J. J. Post, and G. W. Young. When the following proceedings were had viz: On motion of Councilman Keenen: Ordered that the penalty and interst on the City taxes for the present year be revisited until the 28th day of February 1886.

On Motion of Councilman Furth: Ordered that the Chief of the Fire Department be and he is hereby instructed to place a fire plug at the corner of 3rd St. and Jefferson Street. Claims Allowed The following claims having been duly audited by the Council are ordered paid by warrants drawn on the City Fund as follows:

A Paulson City Fund warrant 1423 22 75 Labor on City stable
Benj Pundt City Fund warrant 1424 10 12 Labor on City stable
Wm Alden City Fund warrant 1425 9 25 Labor on City stable
J. C. Helms City Fund warrant 1426 23 00 Labor on City stable
An Ordinance is submitted by the City Atty entitled "An Ordinance to Amend Section 11 of Ordinance No 344" which after due consideration is adopted by the following vote viz: in favor of such ordinance R. H. Calligan, G. W. Hall, W. A. Harrington, Jn Keenen, T. W. Lake, Chas McDonald, J. J. Post and G. W. Young. Against: J. Furth An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled "a special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is adopted by following vote. In favor of said ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Keenen, Lake, McDonald, Post, and Young. Against: None. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn. Attest W. R. Forrest City Clerk H. L. 736 JOURAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jan 15 1886 Be it remembered that on this 15th day of January 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law: the following officers being present, to wit: Hon. H. L. Yesler, Mayor and Councilmen R. H. Calligan, J. Furth, Geo. W. Hall, W. A. Harrington, John Keenen, T. W. Lake, Chas McDonald, J. J. Post, and G. W. Young, when the following proceedings were had, to wit: Petitions etc Received Petition of E. S. Ingram et als praying that Lenora Street be vacated from the alley between Front and Second Sts to Second Street. Read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of Mrs. Scurry et als praying that the alley in Block 8 of Maynard's Plat of Seattle be graded to correspond to the grade of Washington Street and a suitable drain be constructed through the alley to connect with the sewers on Washington Street. On motion the petition is granted and the City Attorney instructed to draw and submit the necessary ordinance ordering such improvement. Petition of Thomas Burke praying that the Union Street sewer be extended by a branch sewer into the alley in Block 4 of A. A. Denny's Addition: Read and on motion the petition is not granted. Councilman McDonald voting against said motion. Petition of James W. Norris et al praying that the three Chinese wash houses on the corner of Mill and Fourth Sts be declared a nuisance and abated the same being in the immediate vicinity of a number of private houses; read and on motion othe petitio is granted and the Chief of Police directed to abate the nuisance. Petition of James Monague et al praying that a Chinese on 6th St between Mill and Washington Sts be declared a nuisance and abated. Read and on motion tabled.

378 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE [?] 30 1888 the illness of D. T. Denny esq. one of said appraisers: It is ordered that M. R. Galloway having hereafter been appointed to act on behalf of the owners of property condemned is reappointed to act in their behalf; and L. B. Andrews having been hereafter appointed to act on behalf of the owner of property benefited is reappointed to act in their behalf: whereupon the acting Mayor appoints Geo Kinnear to act as such appraiser on behalf of the city. The Chairman of the Fire & Water Committee submits plans for a new style of hydrant. On motion the same are referred back to the Committee with instructions to compare the same with other plans and submit estimate of cost. Ordered that F. Hochbrunn be granted one week further time to blast stumps from Block "Q" Denny's 6th Addition. Ordered that the Street Commissioner be instructed to work all prisoners in the city jail in the street chain gang; The ironing of said prisoners to be left to the discretion of the Street Commissioner. Ordered that the Plat of Rengstorf's Addition to the City of Seattle be approved. The City Atty. submits a report approving deed given by H L Yesler dedicating a portion of Mill Street. Ordered that Councilmen Russell City Clerk Forrest be appointed a special committee to confer with H. L. Yesler Esq in regard to straightening South Eleventh Street. Ordinances An ordinance
