237 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 21 1887 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance relating to the Police force and defining the powers and duties and fixing the compensation of certain officers fo the Police Department" which is passed by the following vote, viz: in favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Russell and Reitze Against the same, none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn Approved W H Shoudy mayor Attest W R Forrest clerk Aug 9 1887 Be it remembered that on this 5th day of August 1887 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law: the following officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor Thos T Minor and Councilmen J Furth, J M Frink, Joseph Green, T W Lake, Robert Moran, U R Neisz, R Russell & C F Reitze and W R Forrest clerk. The following proceedings are had to wit: Mayor's Message His Honor the Mayor now submits to the Council in writing his suggestion concerning future legislation. 255 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 10 1887 claim be assessed to Chas Neff and the same stricken from Clarence Hanford's assessment. Ordered that Charles Winters be assessed withLot 3 Block 74 A A Denny's and the same be stricken form Clarence Hanford's assessment. Ordered that Carrie B Hopkins be reduced on improvements onLot 7 Block D A A Denny's from $3500 to $11250 , & Lot 8 Block D from $750 to $#00. Ordered W H Llewellyn be reduced on personal property $450 the same being a double assessment. Ordered that Lots 5 & 6 in Bolck 41 D S Maynard's be assessed to W P Boyd the same having beenomitted by assr.

409 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 7 1888 to Depot Street and building sidewalks on both sides of said Street and recommending that the City Surveyor be instructed to establish the grade and submit plans and specifications for said improvement at the next meeting of the Council. Adopted. From same Committee returning petition of J J Post for planking Alley west of Front Street between Union and University Streets with recommendations that the same be tabled as Alley has already been ordered opened. Adopted. From same Committee on petition of O C Shorey & others for extending Columbia Street westwardly to a junction with the right of way of the Seattle Lake Shore and Eastern R R. Report re-referred to the Street Committee with power to employ the City Surveyor to ascertain if there is room for a fire slip west of the S. L. & E. R. R. Co's right of way and if there is room authorizing the Committee to order said fire slip built. From Special Committee on Mayors message, read and referred to Committee on Health and Police. From Finance Committee on claims of Providence Hospital against the city recommending that the bills rendered for for bedding sent to the Pest house viz: one for $29.15 and one for $21.75 be allowed; the one for $50.00 we recommend the item for carpet $20.00 be stricken out & disallowed and the balance of said bill, to wit: $30.00 be allowed. Also that the sum of $17.25 for care of S Robinson be allowed and that the charge of $83.25 for care of M Brandon be rejected. Adopted. Applications Referred The application of G Burian for a retail liquor license is referred to the Committee on License and Revenue.
