747 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY SEATTLE Feb 5 1886 raise the license for the sale of spiritous & malt liquors. On motionof Councilman Hall the finance Committee is instructed to ascertain on what terms the City can place $20,000.00 of City Bonds for the purpose of building the Beach Road, and authorized to advertise for bids for the same. Ordinances An Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance requesting the Establishment and maintainance of Public Laundries & public wash houses within the city limits of the City of Seattle" is submitted by the City Attorney, which after due consideration is adopted by the following vote; in favor of such ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Keenen, Lake, McDonald and Young against none Also; An Ordinance Entitled "An ordinance to amend Sections 1 & 4 of Ordinance No 317" Also; An Ordinance Entitled "An ordinance to Provide for Improving the alley through Block 8 of D S Maynard's Plat" Also; An Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance transferring certain money from from the 'General Municipal Fund' to the Road fund" and each of said Ordinances having been duly considered by the Council is adopted by the following vote In favor of of the same, Calligan, Furth, Hall, Keenen, Lake, McDonald and Young against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Atty entitled "An Ordinance to further extend and establish Madison Street in the City of Seattle" and on motion the same is returned to the city Atty without Action. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is adopted by the following vote In favor Calligan, Furth, Hall, Keenen, Lake, McDonald and Young against none Ordered that Council do now adjourne Attest W R Forrest clerk H L Yesler mayor

On motion the purchasing clerk is directed to purchase the necessary stars for the police forse and also extra keys for the City Jail. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn Attest W R Forrest clerk H L Yesler mayor FEb 19 1886 Be itremembered that on this the 19th day of February 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law the following officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor Henry L Yesler and councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, Geo W Hall, W A Harrington, John Keenen, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young The folowing proceedings were had to wit: Petitions etc. Petition fo S F Haskinson et al to open Howard and Elaine Streets as defined in Ordinances 658 & 659. Referred to Street Com Communication from the First National Bank presenting claim for certain Seneca Street improvement warrants read & referred to Finance Committee A communication is read by the Mayor to the Council removing Police Officers Wm Murphy, W H Pinckney, James Burke, and James Welch and asking the advice and consent of the Council thereto. Councilman Furth moves to dismiss WM Murphy from the police force, motion lost by the following vote ayes Calligan, Furth, Harrington and Post. nos Hall, Keenen, Lake, McDonald, and Young

755 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 5 1886 Petition of Wah Lee for permission to conduct a public laundry, with proper certificates from the Chief of the Fire Dept and from Health Officer attached, is read. moved by Councilman Calligan that the petition be not granted, which motion is adopted by the following vote; in favor thereof Councilmen Calligan, Hall, Lake, McDonald and Young. Against Councilmen Furth, Harrington and Post Petition of Wan Lee for permission to conduct a public laundry, with proper certificates from the Chief of the Fire Dept and from Health Officer attached, is read and on motion laid over until next meeting. Petition of Louis Widen for permission to conduct the Wisconsin Laundry without complying with Ordinance No 710 read and on motion of Councilman Hall is not granted and it is further ordered that the siad Wisconsin Laundry must comply with the ordinance in every respect before permission to conduct said laundry will be granted. Petition of Wm Murphy praying that the council reconsider their action requesting his resignation as Police Officer, is read and on motion ov CouncilmanMcDonald is laid on the table. Petition of W H Pinckney, James Welch amd James Burke praying that they be reinstated on the Police force until charges shall have been preferred against them and that they be permitted to defend themselves against such cahrges read and on motion of councilman Furth is laid on the table.
