695 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 2 1885 the appointment of special Policeman and defining their Powers and Duties and Fixing their Compensation which, after due consideration is adopted by the following vote: In favor of said Ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington Lake, McDonald, Keenen and Young. Against None. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A special Ordinance appropirating money to pay audited bills" which, after dau consideration is adopted by the following vote:In favor of said Ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Keenen, Lake, McDonald and Young. Against None. Ordered that the council adjourns Attest W R Forrest clerk H L Yesler mayor Oct 16 1885 Be it remembered that on this 16th day of October A D 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law the following officers are present to wit: His Hon the Mayor Henry L Yesler and Councilmen , R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington John Keenen, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young. Whereupon the following proceedings were had to wit: Petitions and Communications Petition of J Bersch et al for opening Sixth Street between Mill and Terrace Streets. Referred to St Com. Petition of Powers and Meyers to dismiss suit of City against thereupon pament of all costs. Referred to Judiciary Comtee Petitionof C B Bagley for opening roadway in Mercers Second Eden Addition Referred to Street Committee. Petition of P Wickstrom et al for permission to establish a Steam Laundry under the Wisconsin House of Mill St, On motion the petition is granted

Union St Sewer The matter of constructing s sewer inUnion Street now beingtaken up: Onmotionof Counclman Geo W Hall, itis ordered that the lowest bid for the construction of said sewer inaccordance with the plans and specificationfiled, towit: the bid of Simpson and Jordan be and the smae is hereby accpeted, upon said bidders filing a good and sufficient bond inthe sum of $3000.00 for the faithful performance of the work, and that the City Atty be and he is hereby authorized to draw up the necessary ordinance and contract. And now the Council proceeds to open the bids for the constructionof a stable for the City when the following bids were received, to wit: C Peacock and A McRea $550.00 W Taylor $750.00 Wright & Granes $534.75 J F Byrne $440.00 W H Brick $687.50 Misner & Conway $550.00 On motion the Contract is awarded to [J F Byrne]] upon his filing a good and sufficient bond in the sum of $500.00 Abd the city Atty. requested to drawm thenecessary ordinance and contract. Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted entitled "An Ordinance granting the right to erect poles and stretch wires thereon for electric purposes" After due consideration by the Council said Ordinance is passed by the following vote: In favor of same R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, J Keenen, T W Lake, McDonald and J J Post Against none. An Ordinance is introduced by the City Atty entitled "An Ordinance authorizing the mayor and clerk to execute a certain contract " which after due consideration is passed by the following vote: In favor of same Furth, Hall, Harrington, Keenen, Calligan, Lake, McDonald and Post Against none.

752 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Feb 18 1886 The resignation of J Paul Lange and A M Gilman police officers are accepted and on motion of Councilman Furth Wm B Jacklin and D H Webster are unanimously elected to fill the vacancies. On motion the matter of the contract for new fire Plugs is referred to the Committee on Fire and Water. Onmotion of councilman Furth the matter of improving the alley through Block 8 D S Maynard's plat is referred to the Street Committee On motion of Councilman Furth ordered that the Treasurer be instructed to refund to R C Granie the amount of taxes erronously assessed against him. On motion of Commissioner McDonald the order for planking Washington Street is reconsidered and the said street is ordered planked sixteen feet wide instead of twenty four feet wide as heretofore ordered. On motion the Committee on Sewers & Drainage is given further time to report on the petition of Geo G Lyon et al for a sewer in front to Block 14 Boren's Addition to connect with Seneca St sewer Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted bythe Clerk entitles "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" Which is adopted and paessed by the following vote. In favor of the same R H Calligan, [J Furth]], G W Hall, W A Harrington, John Keenen, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young.
