Be it remembered that on this the 23d day of January 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment to consider the Jackson Street Extension Assessment Roll The following Officers are present, towit: His Honor the acting Mayor Councilman U. M. Rasin and Councilmen Thomas Clancy, B. F. Day, Geo. W. Harris, John Keenen, B. L. Northrup & F. W. Wusthoff Thereupon the following proceedings are had And now the Council proceeds to the examination of the assessment for Jackson Improvement under ordinance No. 442; thereupon after due examination the same is approved. A petition is received from James M. Colman for opening the Mill Street sewer. Referred to Surveyor with instructions to examine + report at next meeting Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday January 25, 1884 at 7-1/2 o'clock P. M. attest: E. S. Miller et al for gas lamps on Pike Street. Referred to Gas Committee. From Wa Cheng et al for permission to fire firecrackers during Chinese New Year. Denied.

429 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Feb 1/84 Miscellaneous Ordered that the Fire Warden be & is hereby instructed to enforce all the provisions of Ordinance No. 186 & all amendatory ordinances thereto as well as all other ordinances for the prevention of Fires. Ordered that the attorney be & he is hereby instructed to submit an ordinance to provide for a Janitor for City Hall. Ordered that the matter of Fire Cisterns be referred to a Special Comtee. thereupon the Mayor appoints Councilmen Northrup, Keenen & McDonald as such Comtee. And now the Special Comtee in Fire Cisterns make their report recommending that a Fire Cistern be constructed corner Battery and 3rd Streets. Adopted. Ordered that the Treasurer be & is hereby instructed to take sufficient funds out of general city Fund to pay the grade taxes on South 3rd Street & charged against City Hall Property owned by City of Seattle Ordinances And now the Council proceeds to consider 4 ordinances each being entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" Adopted upon the following vote towit: In favor of adoption Day, Harris, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke & Wusthoff. against adoption none Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday February 8, 1884 at 7&1/2 o'clock P. Rasin is appointed acting Mayor to serve during such absence. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Rec'd From Phillips & Fredricks for permission to dump earth foot of Marion Street. Granted From D. C. Townsend et al for opening 11th & Howell Streets. Referred to Street Committee. From Gordan Hardware Co for changing sewer foot of Cherry Street. Granted & Street Commissioner is hereby instructed to change said Sewer. From C. L. Olds et al for opening Lake Street. Granted & Street Commissioner is hereby instructed to open the street. From Aug F. Turner offering his services as Janitor for Court House. Referred to Comtee on Public Buildings, Property & Grounds Reports Rec'd From Treasurer on Pine Street grade & Battery Street sidewalk Referred to Finance Comtee. From Health Officer suibmitting quarterly Report. Referred to Comtee on Health & Police From Surveyor submitting grade elevations on Battery Street. Referred to Street Comtee. Committees Reports Rec'd From Judiciary Comtee on Attorneys Report. Adopted From Judiciary Comtee recommending the paying out of City Fund of the Warrant held by D. Horton & Co on 2d, 3d & Intersecting Sts. grade. Adopted & Treasurer is hereby instructed to pay said Warrant out of funds to the credit of City Fund. From Committee on Inclines recommending the extension of Inclines. Adopted. From the Committee on Public Buildings, Property & Grounds rejecting the petition of F.
