477 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 14/84 From Comtee on Public Buildings, Property and Grounds recommending the purchase of a tract of land accross the Bay near Milton for a Pest House. Adopted & Committee instructed to negotiate for the purchase of such property & report to the Council From Special Committee recommending the granting of the petition of Wm Harkins for an allowance on a/c of Fourth Street grade. Adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Keenen, McDonald, Rasin & Wusthoff. Against adoption Northrup & Ranke From Street Comtee on the petition of Thos T. Minor et al for grading Cherry St between 9th & Broadway recommending that the Surveyor be instructed to make the necessary surveys. Ordered that the Street Commission be & is hereby instructed to report why the alley in Block 107 of D T Denny's plat has not been opened. Ordered that the new plat of "Lakeside addition to the City of Seattle'' be & is hereby approved & that the Attorney be & is hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance vacating the old plat. A motion to instructed the Attorney to submit an Ordinance appropriating $1088.00 from 4th Street Grade Fund to pay claim of I N Bigelow et al is lost upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of said motion Clancy, Keenen, McDonald & Rasin against the same Day, Harris, Northrup, [Ranke]], & Wusthoff Ordered that the Plans & Specification for the Improvement of Bell Street under Ordinance No 555 be & is hereby approved Ordered that Street Commissioner be & is hereby nstructed to open Alder and 8th Streets. 490 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June 16th/84 Be it remembered that on the 16th day of June 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to the call of His Honor the Acting Mayor Councilman U M Rasin for special business. Present, His honor the Acting Mayor Councilman U M Rasin & Councilman Thos Clancy, B F Day,John Keenen, Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: A communication is rec'd from the Clerk regarding the levy of taxes. Adopted Bids rec'd And now the Council porceeds to open bids for the grading of Bell Street under Ordinance No 555, which bids are as follows, to wit: Wm Harkins $2775. W C Muir Earthwork per cu yd 27 cents Sidewalks per M B M [thousand board feet] $12. Boxdrains perM B M [thousand board feet] $14. Grubbing & Cleaning per acre $74. S G Simpson Earthwork per cu yd 34 cents Sidewalks per M B M [thousand board feet] $14.50 Boxdrains perM B M [thousand board feet] $19. Grubbing & Cleaning per acre $100. Ordered that the Contract be & is hereby awarded to W C Muir upon his executing a bond in the sum of $1000. & that the time for completion be fixed at 60 days after executing contract. And now the Council porceeds to open bids for the grading of James Street under Ordinance No 384, which bids are as follows, to wit: W C Muir Earthwork per cu yd 28 cents Cribbing per cu yd $2. Against adoption Day An ordinance is submitted entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" Adopted upon the following vote to wit: in favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Harris, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke & Rasin. Against adoption none. Miscellaneous Ordered that the Attorney be & is hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance fixing the salary of the Attorney at $1200 per annum and the salary of the Treasurer at $1200 per annum Ordered that the clerk be & is hereby instructed to advertise for bids for printing 500 copies of Completed Ordinances in pamphlet form. And now the surveyor submits the specifications for the improvement of Front, Kentucky, Temperance & Harrison Streets under Ordinance No 565; thereuopn said specifications are approved And now surveyor submits the specifications for a sewer in Battery Street, thereupon said specifications are approved Ordered that the matter of electing a Chief Engineer of the Fire Dept be laid over until next meeting And now the council proceeds to examine the assessment Roll for Bell Street grade Ordinance #555, thereupon the matter of such consideration is laid over until next meeting Ordered that the clerk be & is hereby instructed to advertise for bids for furnishing fire plugs. Ordered that a Warrant be drawn favor G Kellogg as Chief of Fire Dept in the sum of $20.00 with which to purchase coal Miscellaneous And now the Council proceeds to elect the Chief Engineer of the fire Dept as provided by ordinance No 536; thereupon Wm Campbell is elected to fill said Office for the term provided by law. And now the coucil proceeds to examine & Equalized the assessment Roll for Bell Street Improvement Grade Ordinance No 555; Thereupon after due examination the said Roll being found to be Correct in every particular & no complaints having been made as to any assessnent therein. It is ordered that said assessment Rolls be & is hereby approved
