224 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jul 1 1887 Seventh Street Assessment Roll Pursuant to law and published notice the Council now proceeds to examine and equalize the assessment roll of the assessment district created by Ordinance No 829 for the grading of Seventh Street from Madison Street to Battery Street and the buildings of sidewalks on both sides of said street. After due examination the said assessment roll is on motion approved. Bids For Grading Fourth Street Bids for grading Fourth Street from UnionStreet to Bell Street are opened and read as follows: Michael O'Day & J A Anderson. Clearing and Grubbing $80.00 Grading Fourth Street from Union to Bell, Clearing per acre $30.00. Grading per cubic yard 30&1/2 cents. Bid of White, Quigley & Gage. Earthwork per cubic yard 33 cents Sidewalks per M[thousand] B M[thousand] $14.00, Box drains per M[thousand] B M[thousand] $15.00 Grubbing & Clearing per acre $100.00 Bid of W E Wilson. Earthwork per cubic yard 39 cents Sidewalks per M[thousand] B M[thousand] $15.00, Box drains per M[thousand] B M[thousand] $15.00 Grubbing & Clearing per acre $90.00 It appearing that the bid of White, Quigley & Gage is the lowest, Motion of Councilman Reitze the contract is awarded to said White, Quigley & Gage and the City Attorney directed to draw the usual contract and the contractors furnish a bond in the sum of $2000.00 On motion that the Blocks 26 & 31 Correction Plat of D L Dennys's addition nto North Seattle is apporved. Ordered that Watson Allen be appointed Judge of election in the First Ward, vice W V Rinehart declines to serve. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance providing for the grading of Madison Street as further extended and established from the line between Sections 28 & 33 to the line between sections 22 & 27 Township 25 North of Range 4 East and to build a sidewalk thereon" Which is passed by the following vote viz: ayes Coulter, Frink, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & Reitze. Noes J Furth. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to amend Ordinance No 835 entitled an ordianance establishing the grade of Fourth Street from Union Street to Bell Street in the Cityof Seattle" Which is passed by the following vote viz: ayes Coulter, Frink, Furth, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & Reitze. 301 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 16 1887 Ordered that the Council do now adjourn Approved Thomas T Minor mayor Attest W R Forrest Clerk Oct 7 1887 Be it remembered that on this 7th day of October 1887 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber this pursuant to law. The following officers are present viz: Mayor Thomas T Minor and Councilmen J Furth, J M Frink, Jos Green, T W Lake, R Moran, U R Niesz, R Russell & C F Reitze and W R Forrest clerk. Thereupon the following proceedings are had to wit: Petitions etc. Petition of Eshelman & Llewellyn to withdraw plat of Madison Street Addition for correction, read and granted Petition of E C Kilbourne et al for grading of and building sidewalk to grade line of Bell Street from West line of Front Street to east line of West Street; read and on motion granted. Petition of David and Ellen Munro for permission to raise the sidewalk to grade line in front of their building on the Southwest Corner of Blanchard and Front Streets. read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of G W Kimball for permission to peddle patent buttons without a license read & on motion rejected. Petition of John Farnham to be appointed Harbor Master read and motion tabled. Petition of Samuel Kenny for permission to build a ten(10) foot extension to his workshop in rear of his store on West Side of Commercial Street read and referred to the Comittee on Fire & Water.
