582 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 22 1888 Be it remembered that on this 22nd day of Aug AD 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle met in their Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following officers are present: his Honor the Mayor Robt Moran Councilmen F J Burns, D E Durie Jos Green and U R Niesz There being no quorum present it is ordered that the Council adjourn until Thursday at 8 o'clock PM Aug 23rd. Petition of H Carson and others for an additionial police officer of Front Street north of Pike Street Read and referred to Com on Health and Police Communication from Mr J G Scurry City Surveyor, in regard to the sliding earht along the Mill Street grade. Read and referred to the Street Com. and City Surveyor to report at next meeting. Ordered that a committee of three be appointed

583 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 23 1888 to confer with the "Arbor Association" in the matter of setting out shade trees along the streets the Mayor appoints F J Burns, U R Niesz and Jos Green The Council now proceeds with the examination and equalization of the asessment roll of 1888 Ordered that the improvements of Lot 6 Block 5 Judkin's Addn assessed to C P Stone be stricken from the roll. Ordered that the improvements on Lot 6 Block 4 Bell and Denny's plat assessed to Jno R Kinnear be reduced from $800 to $450. Ordered that G M Haller be reduced on improvements on Lot 7 Blk 8 Boren & Denny's addn from 3100 to $2000. Ordered that the assessment of G M Haller onLots in Adelia addn be referred to a committee of one The Mayor appoints Mr Jos Green. Ordered that the improvements on Block 100 Terry's 2nd Addn assessed to G O Haller be reduced from $8000 to $4000. Reconsidered. zordered that mr Fred Gasch be reduced on improvements on Union Block situated on a portion Lot 6 Block M Terry's 3rd addn from $10000 to $8000. Ordered hat the matter of Bank Assessments be referred to Mr U R Niesz Ordered that Watson C Squires assessments on Blocks 1 and 13 Bell & Denny's addn be reduced on half(1/2) and Lots 1-2-3 & 4 in each block be stricken from the roll being water lots.

618 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sep 28 1888 Be it remembered that on the 28th day of Sept A D 1888 The Common Council of the City of Seattle met pursuant to adjournment in their council chamber in the City Hall. Present His Hon the Mayor Robert Moran Councilmen F J Burns, D E Durie, Jos Green, T E Jones, Jas McCoombs J F McDonald and C F Reitze Petition of the Cedar Valley Water Co asking for a franchise to lay water pipes. Read and referred to Com on fire & Water. The Mayor reads a message recommending that the City consider the advisibility of owning and operating the Water works which is referred to the Committee on Fire &Water. In the matter of Alden S Chase, proprieter of the Mechanics Saloon in North Seattle, who was cited to appear and show cause why his license for the sale of liquors should not be revoked after hearing the testimony the case was dismissed by a unanimous vote. Upon motion of Jos Green officer D F Willard is elected Captain of Police to work for patrol pay. Upon motion of Councilman Reitze it is ordered that the old lumber taken from the Jackson Street Bridge be sold to the Puget Sound Union Stock Yard Co for $4.00 pr M[thousand board feet] The matter of finishing the No end of Seventh St Ord 829 referred to Street Com. withpower to act. 619 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 28 1888 Virginia Street Tax Levy Ordered that a tax of One hundred and fifty one (151) Mills on each and every dollar of the assessed valuation of all propertyincluded within the assessment district created by Ord No 938 be and the same hereby is lveied on said property for the purpose of paying for the improvement of Virginia Street from West Street to Fourth Street in the City of Seattle. The Clerk submits an ordinance entitled "An ordinance to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote: Burns, Durie, Green , Jones, McCoombs McDonald and Reitze Against same none.
