Trustees 23 Ap. 1835

A meeting of the Trustees of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn was held at the office of Charles P. Curtis in Boston on Thursday the 23^d day of April 1835 at 4 o'clock P.M. __ Present Mess^rs. Joseph Story, Samuel Appleton, Jacob Bigelow, James Read, Charles P. Curtis Benj^m A. Gould, Charles Brown.

The meeting was called to order by Mr. Chas. P. Curtis, the Secretary chosen at the Proprietors Meeting, & thereupon Mr. Samuel Appleton was chosen chairman.

President Chosen.

The Trustees then voted to proceed to the choice of a President by ballot, when the Hon. Joseph Story was unanimously chosen President.

Treasurer.

Mr. George Bond was then chosen Treasurer in the same manner.

Salary of Sec.

Mr C. P. Curtis then resigned the office of secretary. It was voted that the salary of the Secretary be one hundred dollars per annum.

Secretary

Mr Benjamin R. Curtis was unanimously chosen by ballot to be the Secretary of the Corporation & was duly qualified

Com^ee to procure Deed.

Voted. That Mess^rs Bond & C. P. Curtis be a committee to apply for & obtain a conveyance from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society of the land & other property appertaining to the Cemetery & Garden pursuant to the act passed March 31, 1835

Com^ee on Lots

Voted. That Mess^rs Bond, Bigelow & C. P. Curtis by a committee on laying out & discontinuing lots in the said Cemetery, with power to employ as many hands as they shall see fit.

Do on Rules as to Visitors

Voted that Mess^rs Story & Curtis be a committee to Prepare Rules & Regulations concerning visitors & Interments at Mt. Auburn.—

Do on Seal.

Voted. That Mess^rs Bigelow & Story be a committee to devise a Seal for the Corporation & to report to the Trustees at a future meeting.—

Rules as to Visitors.—

Voted. That until further ordered, the Rules & Regulations adopted by the Garden & Cemetery Committee of the Mass^tts Horticultural Society, concerning visitors & interments at Mount Auburn be in full force.

Superintendent

Voted. That M^r John W. Russell be continued as Superintendant of the Mount Auburn Cemetery with all the powers & authorities heretofore conferred on him by the Mass^tts Horticultural Society, or the Garden & Cemetery Committee thereof.

Register of Interments

Voted. that M^r Gould be a committee to procure a book suitable for registering interments at Mount Auburn.

Voted. That Mess^rs Bigelow, Bradlee & Read

Com^ee on Garden

be a committee to consider & report what is necessary to be done with the Garden & Grounds at Mount Auburn.

Proprietors No Quorum

Tuesday May 19, 1835. This being the time to which the meeting of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn stood adjourned the secretary attended at the Rooms of the Mass. Hor. So^y. at 4 o clock P.M. & a quorum for business not being present the meeting was further adjourned to Tuesday the 2^d day of June next.

Tuesday June 2^d, 1835. This being the time to which the meeting of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn stood adjourned, the Secretary attended at the Rooms of the Mass. Hor. Society at 4 o clock P.M. & a quorum for business not being present the meeting was further adjourned to Tuesday the ninth day of June current

Proprietors dissolved.

Tuesday June 9, 1835. This was the day to which the meeting of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn stood adjourned, but no member of the Corporation have attended the meeting was thereby dissolved

Trustees 10. July 1835

A meeting of the Trustees of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn, was held at the Rooms of the Mass^tt Horticultural Society on Friday the 10^th day of July 1835 at half past three o clock P.M. Present Mess^rs Story, Appleton, Bond, Bradlee, Bigelow & Brown

Seal.

The com^ee to devise a seal for the corporation made a report, whereupon it was voted that the seal which had been devised should be committed to Dr. Bigelow & that he be authorised to make such alterations therein as he shall deem expedient.

Laying out Lots.-

Voted. That the com^ee on Lots shall be a com^ee to consider the expediency of laying out the whole of the grounds in Lots, & to report thereon at a future meeting.

Voted That this meeting be now dissolved.

Proprietors Meeting July 10, 1835

To Benjamin R Curtis, Secretary of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn.

You are hereby requested to give notice of a special Meeting of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn, to be held at the Horticultural rooms in Boston on Friday the 10^th day of July next of 4 o'clock P.M. by publishing the same in one or more newspapers printed in Boston seven days at least before the time of meeting Boston June 30, 1835.

By virtue of the above requisition I caused to be published in the Boston Daily Advertiser & Patriot, a newspaper printed in Boston, & more than seven days before the said time of meeting, the following notice, vis: "Mount Auburn Cemetery.— The Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn are hereby notified that a Special Meeting of that Corporation will be held at the Horticultural Rooms in Boston, on Friday the 10th day of July next at 4 o'clock P.M. to hear the reports of the Committees on the bye laws, & on a common seal, & to determine upon the acceptance of a conveyance from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, & to transact any other business which may legally come before the Corporation Boston June 30th 1835. By order of the Trustees.

Pursuant to the above notice the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn met at the Horticultural Rooms in Boston on friday the 10^th day of July 1835 at 4 oclock P.M. The Meeting was called to order by the President. Joseph Story Esq, who was appointed at the last meeting a committee to prepare such bye laws as he should deem necessary reported the following.
