490 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June 16th/84 Be it remembered that on the 16th day of June 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to the call of His Honor the Acting Mayor Councilman U M Rasin for special business. Present, His honor the Acting Mayor Councilman U M Rasin & Councilman Thos Clancy, B F Day,John Keenen, Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: A communication is rec'd from the Clerk regarding the levy of taxes. Adopted Bids rec'd And now the Council porceeds to open bids for the grading of Bell Street under Ordinance No 555, which bids are as follows, to wit: Wm Harkins $2775. W C Muir Earthwork per cu yd 27 cents Sidewalks per M B M [thousand board feet] $12. Boxdrains perM B M [thousand board feet] $14. Grubbing & Cleaning per acre $74. S G Simpson Earthwork per cu yd 34 cents Sidewalks per M B M [thousand board feet] $14.50 Boxdrains perM B M [thousand board feet] $19. Grubbing & Cleaning per acre $100. Ordered that the Contract be & is hereby awarded to W C Muir upon his executing a bond in the sum of $1000. & that the time for completion be fixed at 60 days after executing contract. Ordered that the bids be rejected And now the Council proceeds to open & consider the bids for the sewer in Madison Street which bids are as follows to wit: J T Jordan per running foot $1.60 Wm Harkins per running foot $1.18 Ordered that the contract be awarded to Wm Harkins upon his Executing a bond in the sum of $500.00 Ordered that the time for completion of said Improvement be & is hereby fixed at October 1,1884 And now the Council proceeds to open & Consider the bids for the grading of Front, Kentucky, Harrison & Temperance Streets under Ordinance No 565, which bids are as follows to wit: Wm Harkins Earthwork per yd. 32 cents Cribbing per sq yd $2.50 Sidewalk per M B M [thousand board feet] $14. Against adoption Northrup The Atty submits an ordinance entitled "To amend section 11 ofOrdinance No 246 in action to pay fees and compensation of the City Officers" After due consideration said Ordin-ance is adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Keenen, McDonald, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. Against adoption Day & Northrup An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day,Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "To appropriate three hundred dollars for the purchase of a hose cart" adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day,Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. And now the Council proceeds to open & Consider the bids for furnishing the Compiled Ordinances of the City which bids are from Clarence HAnford and the Globe Printing Co. Ordered that said bids be & Are hereby referred to B L Northrup And now B L Northrup makes his report that the bid of Clarence Hanford is the lowest and best bod. Ordered that the rate of assessment in order to provide funds to pay for the Improvements done on Bell Street under Ordiance No 555 be & is hereby fixed at 37&1/10 mills on the Dollar. Ordinances anOrdinance is submitted to amend sec 15 of Ordinance No 383 in relationto grade. Referred to surveyor An Ordinance is submitted entitled "To provide for building a sidewalk in Fron t, Kentucky, Harrison and Temperance Streets" after due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Day, McDonald, Northrup, Rasin & Wusthoff Against adoption none. And now Councilman Keenen appears and takes his seatl. 2 Ordinances are submitted each being entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Day, Keenen, McDonaldNorthrup, Rasin & Wusthoff Against adoption none.
