1858 Novr 2nd All at Cedar Hill Wyatt sick Henry & chumbly finished shingling this day & 3rd wound up House, covered negroes Houses Daubed Two & Chimneys etc Henry Pressed out Cider Balance Cutting wood, Halled wood & same

4th fixing up there finished sewing wheat ^nearly 15 Bushels sewed

5. Began to move Halled 4 Loads Nannie Went up in morning & stayed at home Rained a little nearly all day moved Lila ^wentup this morning, - carried up all safe but some chickens got smothered - & expect to try & finished tomorrow Friday Saturday 6th the 6 If it does not Rain —

6 Finished Saturday moving -

7th Nannie went to Edgehill to meeting in evening I went down to aspen Grove

8- Put up Our Fatting Hogs at Aspen Grove & Put up shoats to alter -

8 Halling up Corn at Cedar Hill Jordan brot up Sweet Potatoes Bacon Pig & Sundry other thing etc

9 Halling up Corn waggon & Cart

10th Finished Halling up Corn here & Halled 1 Load wood Henry Carrd 2 Logs to worsham mill & ½ Bbl corn for meal & got 1 Turn which was there Shucked a little corn Mr Lewisaltered my shoats Buck & Robt & Kitty had Blankets at aspen Groveat Aspen Grove 26 - Turned out 1 Boar & claiborne Rhoda & Lila had Blankets here Cedar Hill1 Sow more making 2 young Boars & 2 young sows & 4 old ones,-

11th Began to shuck Corn in morning & began to Rain & stoped us, shelled Corn Cleaned out nubbin House etc etc overseer cut out shoes for negroes etc Jerry went down home in evening- & Chumbly [lost?]

1859 Augt 17th Bob here this morning 3 days this week, began to cover barn this morning balance cutting down Pines - cloudy & like for Rain this morning - Capt Pallison Boxley Died 7th day of this month Augt 1859 at Mr Poindexters where he has lived about 2 years Recd letter from Cousin Jos C Boxley stating this -

18th went to meeting Mr Chumbly & Henry covering Tobacco House balance cutting down Pines very dry & Cool of nights,-

19th Shingling House Tobacco Barn little Henry & Jerry Smith Cutting Pines Henry went to meeting House to day Rhoda nor Lila did not want to go. claiborne & clem went Wednesday & they all went from Plantation

20 Sent Henry & claiborne to help Raise Barn at Mr Hunts place, chummy & little Henry at work on Barn finished covering & at work on Bonnetts of Barn clem spining

21. Fannie W. & Billie Jones stayed here last night & to day Mrs clements & Johns children here Chip & George Coleman also. Still dry &cool

22nd chumney going to look for a place to live at lent him a Horse Henry toping Tobacco Balance worming & succorring fresh ground Bob came here this morning -

2 [smudge]23 Bob here again to day cutting pines Henry & overseer at work on Barn Balance cutting pine Mr Adams Stanley & Mr Lewis came but they could not get a reference, did not do any thing Nannie Mrs Hunt & Sallie started to Mrs Colemans stop at Johns place, Jerry Came home from Hargraves this 23rd Augt 1859, because

1859 Decr 3rd Mr Chumney Henry & claiborne gone to plantation to burn Plant Bed Henry gone to Mill Charles Allen gone to P.O to hear the news & send a Bundle by Mr Moor Post Carrier to Jerry, socks Books Buttons thread needles etc etc got 2 letter no Papers – It Rained last night & little sleet this morning this day it has been raining more or less all day They finished burning plant Bed at aspen Grove & Hoeing up etc etc we have half of the one out on Roard next to Mr Lewis s

5th Chunmey mended my shoes & Boots making Jerrys a pair to day negroes striping Tobacco in Barn over the Road succors did not get done then = Rect to make soap taken from Mr Roff who stayed here all night with hog munkey & Black Rabbit etc this night To 10 lb yellow Rosin soap, 6 lb salsoda put in 10 or 12Gallons Soft Rain water, put the water & salsoda on the fire & cut up the Rosin soap in pieces & put in the water slowley & let it continue awhile after the soap you put is dissolved take it off it let it cool, Cut it up, & If you want soft soap add a little warm or Rain water to thin it If its too hard & it will wash fine.–

6th Striping Tobacco at same House Raining a little this morning – Sent claiborne to Mrs Fitzgeralds to help them Kill hogs arch sick

7 Began to Hall wood this morning & it rained & we shelled Corn worked on House some, Rained & we went & finished Striping Tobacco in House over the road, claborne returned to night

1859 Decr 12th Mr Fox came again to Dig well & his Horse, came about 12 Oclock - Mr Chumney went to store & staid till Evening I went to Fannies to see Arch, chumney at work on stables Henry & claiborne with Fox Digging well, weather moderated some, Henry brot from Mill 1 turn wheat Meal, for us & chumneys Turn Corn meal = Bot of Mr J Tucker 1565 shingles brot by Mr Blanks paid him to day for them, - -

1413 Come to water in well this morning & began to wall in about 11 Oclock, & got it walled about 10 feet. chumney fixed rafters to day & Halled 2 Loads Sand in evening & took till night, pretty cool day — Mr Fox has been here one day & a half to night

14th Working on well to day all hands Since morning, got a little over ½ wallked Mr Chumney Halled up Some Oats ps Stack this morning & then framed bottom sills etc, I went to aspen Grove & little after the Cross Cut Saw, — Still cloudy & like for falling weather. Cothran has burnt 3 plant Bed, one of which next to Mr Lewis one road we have part of it. = they are plowing down there

15. Finished walling in well, to night Halling Rocks all day got to the Top I halled 8 Loads myself before dinner, & 4 or 5 afterwards –

16th working on well Layed down Stills, Hewed Corner Post. Plates etc chumny been nearly all day getting the Pieces, Layed the floor this evening have done nothing to stable this week, but my Horse to Nannie to day sent Phil to Yates Shop shod before, bot 536 Shingles of John Tucker pd him 2.15 cents for them

17th desperate morning doing nothing raining & freezing wind blowing hard etc etc.

1861 Feby 7th. Sent Claiborne to Allen Scruggs to Roll Logs. overseer Harry & Smith getting Rafters for Carriage house & Granary & Henry began to halled wood, but the wind blew so hard, like blowing every thing away I thought it was dangerous & stoped him, I sent for my Boar at Adams & got him got all now. This morning I swapted Jim off with Wm Shields. & got $20 to Boot & got a large Bay Horse called Ball, said to be 12 yrs old, Sheriff Witcher here to night,-

8th This morning Cutting & Halling wood,- John come at 12 oclock to fix Kitchen chimney Balance working at new ground I went to Plantation to measure Ditch & sent my note to Elder J. Hubbard for Ditching for $24.85 to be paid shortly. -

9th I went to meeting. got Robin shod behind had wheat ground for Henry - - Our hands at work in new ground

10th cloudy & like for Rain, Nannie & Fannie went to meeting at S.S. I staid at home

11th. It has been cloudy & Rained a little during the evening, overseer & Claiborne went to Aspen Grove to burn Plant Bed. Bob here to day fixed Kitchen & well & then went to malling new ground on road & Henry & Smith halled manure out of Plant Bed & put it on Corn field, [Geo.] Mr Y Miller & D Logan here to day Nannie steptoe etc. here also, Logan & Miller came to buy Cider

12th I went to Yates shop got Ball shod before new shoes old nailed on behind, went to aspen Grove Carried Seeds Tobacco etc to sew on Bed Burnt yesterday pt ours on road next to Lewis our folks malled till 12 Oclock then fixed to burn plant Bed in woods Harry Plowing for Corn, took down some Tobacco
