An Ordinance is submitted entitled "An Ordinance to repeal Ordinance No 480 of the City of Seattle and to declare forfeited the franchise and priveledges thereby granted" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Latimer, Northrup, Rinehart, Snyder, Sox & Yesler. Against adoption none. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "An ordinance to provide for licensing and regulating the keeping of gaming table and bowling alleys." After due condsideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Frye, Latimer, Northrup,Rinehart Snyder, Sox & Yesler. Against adoption none. Ordered that the vote by which an Ordinance entitled "An ordinance authorizing the location and laying down of traks for Street Railways in certain streets of the City of Seattle and the equipment and operation of such Railways" was made a special order for next regular meeting. be & the same is hereby reconsdered. Miscellaneous A motion is made to reinstate D H Webster to his position as a member of the Police Force, which motion is lost upon the following vote. In favor of said motion Northrup, Rinehart, Snyder & Sox. Against the same Clancy Frye, Latimer. Yesler & His Honor the Mayor John Leary. 589 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jan 16/85 Clancy, Frye, Latimer & Yesler. Against the same Northrup, Rinehart Snyder & Sox Ordered that the Contractor on 5th Street Grade be & is hereby granted an extension of time to complete the same until Feb 20, 1885 Ordered that the Judiciary Comtee be & id hereby instructed to examine the Contractor's Bond for the Improvement of James Street and make recommendations to the Council touching the completion of the Improvement. Ordered that the Cemetary Ordinance be & is hereby referred to the Comittee of Public Buildings, Property and Grounds with instructions to fill blanks therein Ordered that the Comtee on Public Buildings, Property, & Grounds be & is hereby instructed to repair & arrange the Building in rear of Bell's Hotel on Battery Street for the storing of Fire Engine #2 Ordered that a street lamp post with lamp be sold to the Brunswick House. Ordered that the Street Commissioner be & is hereby instructed to put the name of W G Latimer on his Roll of Street Laborers & Allow him for such time and such rate of wages as he may determine right. Ordered that a gas lamp be placed corner Front and James Streets. Ordered that Gas Comtee put in a gas lamp cor 6th & Jackson Streets. 590 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Feb 6/85 Be it remembered that on this the 6th day of Feburary 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following Officers are present,to wit: His Honor the Mayor John Leary and Councilmen Chas F. Clancy, Geo. F. Frye, W.A. Harrington, B.L. Northrup, Alfred Snyder, E. F. Sox, H.L. Yesler, W.G. Latimer & W.V. Rinehart. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Recd' Buckias From Sylvanus Buckias forrefunding moneys paid for taxes and correcting assessment. Referred to Judiciary Comtee Hoskinson for Howard St condemnation From F S Hoskinson et al for condemning property for a street to be called Howard Street. Referred to Street Comtee Moyer From Geo Moyer for remitting penalty on delinquent taxes, Referred to Judiciary Comtee Engines to Belltown Remonstrances are rec'd from Julius Smith et al and from Firemen against moving Enging #2 to Bell town, Irdered that said remonstrances be laid on the table. In favor of said order, Frye, Northrup, Snyder, Sox Latimer, & Rinehart. Against the same Clancy, Harrington, & Yesler James Street From Wm Harkins for an extension of time until April 1,1885 on James Street Grade. Granted upon the condition that said Harkins pay all the claims of laborers and maerialmen already against said street. 596 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Feb 6/85 recorded on page 589 for labor on streets after the storm in the sum of $22.75 is ordered paid. Latimer Claim Councilman Latimer thereupon declines to accept the allowane & states that he will not take the warrant therefor & requests the Clerk that no warrant issue. Ordered that the thanks of the Council be & is tendered to Councilman Latimer for his service rendered as afore siad James & 5th Grade Claim Claims are presented by laborers & others against James & 5th Sts grades. Referred to the clerk. License Ord Ordered that the matter of certain proposed amendments to Sections 7 & 11 of Ordinance No 637 be & the same is referred to the License Comtee to report next meeting. Ordinances Detective Service An Ordinance is submitted entitled "An ordinance appropriating money to pay for Detective Service" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Frye, Harrington, Latimer, Northrup, Rinehart, Snyder, Sox & Yesler. Against the same none. Washelli Cemetary An Ordinance is submitted entitled "An ordinance creating Washelli Cemetary and setting apart and dedicating the grounds for the same" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Frye,Harrington, Latimer, Northrup, Rinehart, Snyder, Sox & Yesler. Against the same none. To pay Bills An Ordinance is submitted entitled "An ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Frye, Harrington, Latimer, Northrup, Rinehart, Snyder, Sox & Yesler. Against the same none. Miscellaneous Clerk to notify Brugger Ordered that the Clerk be & is hereby instructed to notify Abraham Brugger that at the next regular meeting of the Council his license will be revoked. The following reports having been duly approved by Committees are ordered filed to wit: City Justice, Justice Lyon, Chief of Police & Jailor. Against adoption none. Miscellaneous Fifth St Grade cost of The Clerk submits the statement of Cost of Fifth Street Grade. Re-referred to Clerk to make correction. Comcial Mill & Front St planking The motion is made & adopted that the Street Commissioner be & is hereby instructed to complete the planking of Commercial, Mill, & Front Streets as originally ordered.
