1859 March 3rd Sent to Mill for overseer Brought Turn meal for us left his there we Thrashed Out one stack Oats

4th Mr Roby quit on acct of no coal about 3 Oclock Halling leaves wood Claiborne malling Covered Potatoe Patch halled leaves in Big lot & Corn field, I went down to Yates Mr Lewis’s & aspen Grove, fine windy day My Boar gone Two or Three weeks –

5. Winding & Cleaning Oats to Sew. Henry laying off Corn Land claiborne beding Fencing etc etc Mr W Chumbly & Balance This day Swapted off Rose with Tom Owen for a Jenny named Jane & her Jenny Colt. Jenny about 4 yrs old little Colt about 4 or 5 months old,– jenny is a female donkey

6th. Beautiful day & all gone to Edge Hill to meeting but myself,- weather moderate

7th Jonathan Dawson came here very tight last night & stayed all night, very sick from it - This morning about light it commenced raining all morning till 12 then we were Shelling Corn & fixing plows & Harrow to Plank Corn, in evening pulled down & Halled old shop to burn etc etc etc Jacob left this evening with Mr Moses,

8 Nanny & Kate Sallie & negro Catham went to Doct Thompsons got some teeth drawn & wewere fixing overseers Garden etc till night

9th Finished overseers Truck Patch this morning Squared barn Logs & Plowing for Oats in big Lot fine weather

10th Plowing for Oats & fencing Began this morning to Sew Oats, Jacob commenced Plowing this morning. Here fine weather I went yesterday to Aspen Grove gave out

1859 May 29th Clear cool day,- I staid at home - - 30 Halled 1 Log to worhsams Mill & Carrd 2 Turns Corn & got 1 of meal -

31st Card 1 Log to same mill & 1 Turn Corn & got the 2 Turns meal, & feet weather boarding - @ 6/- pr Hundred -

June 1st Sent to Fannie W Fitzgeralds after 5 Barrels Corn bot & pd for @$4.00 sent the chair Mrs Hunt gave me to Peaks to mend thining & setting corn this morning then finished weeding in Lower field & come to Orchard, worked Pepper —

2nd Plowing fresh ground Tobacco weeding Corn in the Orchard had little shower Rain yesterday & looks ^ like more to day

3rd Rained a little in the night, planted Peas Plowing corn weeding Fresh ground Tobacco. Rained at Plantation last night & they planting & finished & replanted nearly over wheat taking Rust down there, 4 Replanted our Tobacco lot & all

5 went to meeting Edgehill very Cool day Frost last night & cooler this evening -

6 Halled wood till 12 Oclock Plowing Corn weeding down fresh ground Tobacco,-

7 Same work, chumbly making steps for Porch next to Garden, got Bills shoes changed nearly done weeding fresh ground Tobacco & Plowing corn on Road ——

8 Harrowing Tobacco Plowing corn Choping Corn etc etc Fine Rain in evening I got to Mr Pannills from CH & had to stay all night on acct Rain,

9th Replanting Tobacco this morning & took nearly all day to do it

10 Sent Henry to aspen Grove for Lamb & chickens

1859 Augt 9th I am going to the CH to day to see about Mrs Stones business as Commr Agreed with Cothran for another year as overseer —dry weather yet Mr Waldron brot another Load Shingles 1977 hundred above like the others I got of him @$3½ pr Thousand. dry weather yet

10. 10th Raised The Top of our Barn to day Mr Cothran Jordan Sandy & Lowry Came up to help us got it done & they went home little after 12 Oclock I went to Edge Hill to meeting — dry here yet tho fine Rains not far off

11th I stayed at settling with Mr Faris Whitehead wrote Several letters etc one to Bro. Jno & Jonathan Duffy & Henry Wingfield, Mr Chummy & Henry & claiborne at work on Barn, balance Cutting clem spining & drying fruit

12th Same work to day I am going to aspen Grove this evening & James Shields

13the went to meeting to day Mrs Hunt Came back here dry & Hot yet 14th went to meeting

15th went to Court. Balance claiborne little Henry & Jim gone to Fannies to thrash wheat Halled 2 Logs to Mill & Halled plank from mill wormed & Succored & toped Tobacco got done a little after 12 oclock round ing & Jointing shingles in evening I Bob Worked here this day —

16th Mr chumbly Hunting Corn wheat or something to Eat. Henry Rounding shingles Bob Here again this morning —

1860 March 2nd Sent Henry claiborne & Harry to aspen Grove to Roll Logs I went Smith Plowing Cotton Patch Clem fencing & Rake in new ground some next to Whiteheads Delightfull weather

3rd Sewed my Plant Beds over here Halled Rails, stacking rails in near new ground Raking one next to whiteheads Fine weather My Two Young Sows had 12 Pigs Large had 7 white one had 5 -

4 Sunday went to meeting Edgehill

5. Thrashing Oats & Halling Rails -

6 Began to sew Oats making Horse lot this morning Piling wood & Raking new ground next to whiteheads winding Oats If this wind Blow

7th. Began to Colter in new ground next to Capt whiteheads, Burning trash heaps there Nannie & me went to aspen grove to day.

8. Sent 55 lbs Iron to yates 2 Bands for little waggon & 2 Collers to Lay & 1 Grub Hoe to weld Eye on.

9th. Burning Log Heaps & Trash heap & Rained

10. Sewing Oats Hilling. etc etc - I went to Chalk Level to attend to warrant agst Stanly Adams & Davis no one but Stanly tryed & I had to pay him 1.90 & Cost 50/-. very cold Hilling to this day -

11. giving to milling to day —

12. Planted Irish Potatoes by Kitchen near 1 Bus. - Sent Harry & Smith to Mill got 1 Turn each meal & wheat to eat & sent 1 of wheat & 1½ Bus corn Coltering & Hilling this morning after Planting Potatoes fine weather for Spring

13th Halled & Mauled till 12 Oclock then Hilled & sewed Oats, very windy & cold this morning.

1860 April 7. Hilling in new ground below oats Stacks,- clear pretty weather – I went to meeting to day

8th & 9 went went to meeting

10 Cloudy this morning —, Henry laying of[f] Fresh ground 1 way Harry Harrowing Beds for Corn, Hilling in new ground Planted Swet Potaote Patch ¬– I went down with Mrs Hunt to her place

11. Coltering & Hilling in new ground etc

12th Halling out manure put some in corn field Raked some I went to Milton wednesday & got back, Thursday ¬– fine weather —

13th. Began to Plant Corn this morning Finished planting corn in fresh ground & began in upper part of Lot in evening I went to Plantation this evening — The Two Sows at aspen Grove had only 2 pigs¬– our here is doing well Brought up young cow & calf from there this week & sent Slow & her Calf down there

14 I went to Chalk Level to attend to warrants vs Adams & Davis got Judgt vs Davis & had the Cost to pay & 1.26 I think in adams case for Mr Hunt.

15 went to meeting to Edgehill -

16 went to Court, Likely for Rain but did not Hilling Halling wood & coltering Sent Robin to Yates & got him shod ¬–

17. Bedding up Branch Land for corn Halling out Dirt from well fighting fire at Kelleys & McHaneys I Did not come home till to night windy nearly every day

18 Raining this morning, Cutting up may weeds in wheat shelling corn in morning.
