1860 May 31st Replanted Tobacco to day all over,- Thinning corn & nearly finished that going to Plowing this evening, Elvira & Amy very sick with dissentary Sent for Doct Thompson yesterday & this evening again

June 1st Halled Brick for Dining room floor this morning & Lathes to lath Dining room. Fair & clear to day - Bob has been here all this week, weeding corn next to Capt Whiteheads., Mrs Hunt rested tolerable last night, this morning very bad off indeed Mr Faris here yet put up mantle in Dining room this morning - fair & clear weather Mrs Lucy A Clement has been sick about 10 or 12 days & Died to day about 2 Oclock, with congestion in Bowels so I hear - nanny went up there to day

2nd I went to aspen Grove sheared sheep Killed One Lamb Mrs Clements buried today. Amy my little negroe Daughter of Clementina Died to day with bowel Complaint Elvira very Sick. Doct Martin was here & went to see them both. said he did not consider them dangerous

3rd Amy Buried to day Elvira very sick yet Doct Thompson came to day, Mrs Coleman Mr & Mrs Hargrave Come here to day Rained this evening. Mrs Hunt is very bad off yet. - quite sick all day to day -

4th June Bob here, John Came to fix Dining room, Mrs Hargrave staied last night with her Ma, Mrs Coleman here yesterday cloudy & Rainy this morning, Henry Halling up leaves in stables, - etc - working Sweet Potatoes Peas Cotton & Corn Henry & Harry Plowing in corn in Lot; my Horse Lame for several days. -

17th July 1860 Stacked Oats all day & finished put 1 stack in stable & put up 14 stacks claiborne stack one stack Bob stacked balance

18 - Henry Complaining gave him some Pills claiborne Jointing shingles all day balance began to shrub for Corn another on road my wife & Mrs Hunt gone to Mrs Colemans to see Isaac Overby who is there sick, bob Carried Mrs Hunt Carriage to shop to have tires, etc, Pal Came after work for his Mama Sent her 3 lbs wool Bags & all & some grease to grease it - Dry & Hot weather

19th I went to aspen Grove this day bob gone after Mr Overby & Mrs Hunt at Mrs Coleman Doct Thompson went to see Isaac Overby Rained 2 Showers in evening Run in the yard Grubing in corn field Henry sick & doing not much claiborne Jointing Shinglings & Digging whole for Prize Stump Jerry gone to Mrs Panills & shields to see about Thrashing their wheat

20th July cloudy, Shrubing for corn Toping Tobacco this morning first we toped

21. Shrubing corn field for 1861 Henry & Claiborne planking Prize shelter & Rounding & Jointing shingles I went to Fannies & Kates Sal & Alice went with me.

22nd I went to Prayer meeting clear & Dry in morning — In the shortly after I got home It began to Thunder & very soon a cloud come up & Rained hard, Severe Lighting - Rained a fine shower 3 times, Doct Estes stayed all night

23rd Striping Tobacco finished in big barn & then went to Little barn Plowing up Turnip Patch sewing Turnips in Garden etc etc Bob not here to day. Brought Bitter from aspen Grove mare bot of Mrs Fitzgerald.

1860 August 4th I went to Whiteheads Mill to see about sheeting Plank to avory Mustains for Grasty etc Hilling up new ground Tobacco & finished before night made Hog pen etc

5. I went to strait Stone, protracted meeting began & also one going on at Edgehill - -

6 Henry Hilling at work on Palings Lila sick in her House, tho she Spins some clem cooking balance butting Logs for Barn Henry cut 2 pines for slabs etc.

7th Went to meeting every day this week Nannie & Mrs Hunt & Sallie went to CH Monday morning To day Henry went to Millers Mill Brought home a Load of Palings & some sheeting & some flooring, Carried a Log we have 2 there now to saw 1 for sheeting & 1 for Square edged Plank & sheeting - balance worming Tobacco & getting up apples for Cider, etc weather dry & Hot -

8 they sent for Doct Thompson again for Emma 3 times to see her, called here Twice to see Jerry & Lila but did not come in the House We are getting up our apples to day & last evening - dry Hot weather

9. Henry nailing Boards On Clems & Rhodas Houses. Cutting in new ground Just began Butting & squaring Logs for Barn, -

10th Sent Jerry Smith to aspen Grove after 2 Bushels wheat for flour to carry to yates. Henry has gone after a Lamb & Harry meeting going on at Strait Stone,

11th Raining this morning. striping Tobacco Nannie Jere & Sallie went to meeting yesterday good meeting I & Jerry went to meeting cleared off about 9 or 9 Oclock —

1860 August 18. Worming & succoring Tobacco this morning Henry gone to Aspen Grove to get 10 Bushels wheat, 8 for flour 2 to eat for negroes carried 2 Bus. Corn, & 1 stack to make square edge Plank & sheeting all to yates, etc — Hot day —

19th we all went down to aspen Grove except Jerry who went to St Andrews to meeting

20. Jerry & myself went to Court. Our Folks choped up the Grass & covered plant Beds & then went to Toping worming & succoring Tobacco next to Whiteheads

21st Toping worming & succoring Tobacco Mr Wright came here yesterday morning Monday to work on yard at it again to day

22nd Started waggon with 2 Hdds Tobacco from aspen Grove, Jerry gone with it gave him $6 - 2 Bushels corn in Ears & oats & fodder Mr Wright here again Mrs Hunt started from here this morning for Mr Browns & come back in evening, - Doct Thompson comes to Mr Hunts Plantation nearly every Ho[u]r about 10 days & to Bybees together Emma Died monday morning, 19th Augt.

23rd Toping Tobacco worming & succoring Tobacco & Beeting Cider Cloudy this morning Beeting Cider in evening Henry started with 2 Hdds Tobacco from aspen Grove wednesday evening,to Lynchg Jery & Smith went with him Expences, Henry & my 2 Horses — Oats for 4 Horses & some fodder 2 Bus. corn in years from here Toll of Waggon 1.25 - pd I sent for 1000 lb Peruvian Guano to Wm Miller 5 Sent waggon on Home by Henry

24th Put out Our Second rate Tobacco Toping over & worming next to Whiteheads In evening Came up a tremendous hard rain wind & Gust washed away all fencing Blew down some for me took us till night to fix up again

25 Jerry & Henry Came home from Lynchg bringing 6 Bags Guano 1000 for aspen Grove sent the waggon on right off

26. Sunday Jerry went to association at upper Banister Carried the Letter from Strait Stone Church & $5 in money Doct Thompson came over to day Sunday to Mr Bybees children as he told me himself

27th Halled up Fodder & 1 stack Oats & then Henry went to mill & got flour from yates & gone down to aspen Grove to Load & start to Lynchg again with 2 Teams & all the Tobacco from there I Carrd Jerry to Chalk Level to live this morning for 12 months for $50Picked up & halled 1 Load apples, now Toping & worming Tobacco —

28 Started to Lynchg & carried Sallie on to School at Hollins Institute, worming & succoring Tobacco Rained very hard again Finished Carrying the Tobacco to Lynchg from Aspen Grove made only 5442 lb & sold for $290 & some Cents Expense in halling $16 & some cents overseer part $39.11. Settled with him for Tobacco & oats made 1859 & Oats made 1860 I Bot for moses, & he asked off & I took them myself I have paid for them &
