1859 April 11th Mr Chumbly making Kates shoes. Mr Bell Cutting out fire place up stairs John pulling down chimney & going to put it up again Henry Halling Sand & wood, to day got 1 Bbl Lime from J.D. Hunts Est. very windy day. cleared off this morning
12 Began to Plant Corn this morning, in lot next to fresh ground, Jacob doing but little, John putting up chimney to House claiborne helping him etc Sent Jerry Smith down to Yates after a ps Iron to go over fire place up stairs - warm day this day -
13th Planting below Barn on Branch nearly all day. Jacob done but very little John at work on chimney with claiborne to wait on him, I went down to aspen Grove Kitty complaining I had her moved in Kitchen
14th Last night about 10 or 11 Oclock they sent for me to go down to aspen Grove Kitty was Sick they also sent for Doct Thompson & Mrs. Neal all there about 1 oclock in the night & Kitties child a Girl Born about 3 Oclock this morning Halled some Sand up this morning John at work on chimney Set Coal Kill on fire this morning Planting Corn, last night Kate Sallie & Miss Simpson came here & this morning Jacob went off with them, - very windy to day & warm
15th Planting corn went after bricks Twice Halled 1 Load Sand, John at work on chimney, I went down to aspen Grove we are nearly done planting corn

1859 Oct 2nd, Stayed at home all day went to aspen Grove Saturday Rained a little this day in morning
3rd Pulled Corn in Orchard & put in corn house Toping Succors in fresh ground
Oct 4th they are cutting to day in old field, Jerry is gone to Vaughans with traveller to carry him - I Start to Richmond this morning -
15th I have returned to day from Louisa & Richmond Sold Johns Estate Land in Hanover to aaAdophus Tensley]] by Godden & apperson of Richmond, auctioners — had Capt Boxleys Will recorded etc left Bonds & $30.06 in Cousin J. C. Boxleys hands to Collect & pay Taxes etc - etc etc Our Folks has been Cutting Tobacco Housing Firing Tobacco Cutting down corn fixing for Sewing wheat, Finished Cutting Our tobacco, this evening — after I got home I was taken sick puking & purging something like cholera - Sent for Doct Thompson got better in the night, Bro. J Pannill [hap?] here & stayed with me while sick all night
16th I am better on this morning
17th Hanging Tobacco I am better, Raining a little & I am not enough to go to Court Sent Jacob etc - did not rain much Mr, Moses & Kate came to see me wrote to Sallie Mr Wingfield & Miss Gooden & apperson to day - Raining in the night
18th cleared off very fair pretty day Halling up wood & some to Barns & then Halling up Tobacco & Housing —
19th Went to Plantation to day brot wheat Fan up, 1 Turn Corn 1 sheep & some vinegar & Brandy Halling up Tobacco & finished I went to Sarah McCullock etc etc,
October 20, 1859 - November 3, 1859
1859 Oct 20th Cutting & Plowing in Lot -
21st went to mill Halled & Cutting firing Tobacco - I went to Jonah Kelleys sale
22nd I went to Johns place, began to sew wheat here, Cutting down Seed Broom Corn & Egyptian wheat. Stoping Gullies in Lot etc
23 Cutting down new ground sewing wheat in Lot fine day for business
24 Same work,
25 Mr Keatts came here to build chimny Sewing wheat this day —
26 Mr Keatts worked 2nd day on chimney pulling Halling up Lot Corn halled 2 Loads. Mr chumney & claiborne with Mr Keatts.
27 Halling up Corn wood & Bricks & at work on chimney - Mr Keatts
28 & 29 Same work on chimney & Housed Corn this evening I went to Sarah McCullock Mr worked nearly 5 day this week -
30st Jerry went to Fannies, Sallie came home yesterday morning Saturday stayed till Monday & went back to Doct Thompsons to go to Danville
31 Halled up a Load of stacks our Load Corn on Stacks Halled 3 Loads wood & 4 Loads Rock Mr Keatts did not come to day all to day
Novr 1st Mr Keatts came after Breakfast Send after Mrs Neale for Lila, child Born about 12 Oclock a Girl. Chumney sent to Mill Halling Rock to day - fine weather
2nd Fox came 8 or Ten Oclock to Dig well & He is Complaining, Keatts Chimney is about to fall down, Arch Broke intoo [in two] in middle, I went to Plantation to day
3rd Mr Keatts at work fixing chimney that was about to fall down Sent to Yates got upwards 30 lbs Iron for chimney etc.
December 24, 1859 - January 5, 1860
1959 Decr 24th Jerry Came home last Sunday & Sally came to day – from Riceville Bro Thompson Brot her to his House Fannie Came down to day
25th I went to Strait Stone praying meeting this day Jerry & me windy & cool or cold
26 Kate Cam Mr Moses Came down to day Me & old Aunt Lucy this morning – clear & windy to day —
27 Mr Moses & Kate here, & fixed my clock Fannie went home last evening –
28. Raining & bad weather I am at home sick
29 Raining & freezing disagreeable day Kate & Mr Moses went home Wednesday evening Sent their cow by Jordan & Sandy –
30. Cleared off last night Sallie & Jerry here bad freezing night given Kate Bed stead & furniture Tub axe Earthen ware etc etc etc gone
31st cloudy & like for snow this morning I am going to mount airy to hiring Began to Hall wood cut & mall yesterday & to day cutting malling & Piling wood. Began to Snow about 12 oclock great sleet I had 2 or 3 falls, Snowed about 1 Inch Deep on the Hail & sleet Bill Sick this evening - got well about night, very bad weather at this time,
Jany 1st1860 very cold & cloudy stayed at home
2nd I went to Mr Hunts place & Wyatts to day Cutting in new ground, chumny moved Thursday in Christmas —
3rd Sally left this morning for Danville Jerry Carried her to Doct Thompsons gave her $2½ in money halling wood here to day - & Cutting
4th Sent 5 Bushels wheat to Mill to day Cutting & halling wood this day — still cold weather
5 I started to Louisa to day Henry & Claborne sewed Hard grass seed this morning & then all went to cutting in next

11th May 1860 We cut Spayed & marked at aspen Grove yesterday & day before, my old Bull & 1 Calf. Mr Roach Cut Tom mule Cothran spayed 4 shoats & cut 1 Boar Marked all, Cut & marked Mr Bybee altered calf for me 8 Rams lambs Ewe Lambs
12. 7 not Cut,- cloudy damp weather Mrs Hunt Jaw hurts very much
12th Mrs Hunt did not rest well last night Weeding & Plowing Corn in fresh ground Sent Bob for Doct Thompson to see Mrs Hunt he came. - We Planted a little Tobacco last Thursday I went to meeting yesterday SS. Not many person about 5 or 6 members.
13th Mrs Hunt still very much compla[in]ing
14th Coltering in new ground & replanting Corn next to Capt Whiteheads, Nannie & myself went over to Mrs Hunts place & arrange for the sale of his property in the House
15th scattering Manure Plowing lot Replanting Corn, & Hilling in new ground Mr. Faris came here to do some little work yesterday Monday a little before 12 Oclock. & this morning Tuesday he is at work @ $1½ pr day sold 2 Hdds Tobacco sold by Clark & []
